Hi I’m Chang, an OMFS StR 5 appointed to the West Anglian OMFS rotation in the East of England. This is a fantastic rotation between Luton and Northampton; two excellent OMFS units to work in. Both are large OMFS units operating a hub and spoke model with services centralised to their respective units. Cleft Lip and Palate is also available at Addenbrookes, Cambridge. Luton is the larger of the two with nine OMFS consultants, and Northampton five. As one of two OMFS registrars in both units there is ample learning opportunity and I have had no shortage of operating exposure. Consultant trainers are hands on and deliver exceptional surgical training tailored to your level of ability. I am delighted to have performed 45 microvascular anastomoses as first surgeon having raised and assisted in over 50 free flaps. This is an example of the sometimes difficult to ascertain procedures readily available on this rotation. I would have no hesitation in recommending my rotation to prospective trainees and I would certainly choose this rotation again if asked!
