Hospital Profile

 

Luton and Dunstable Hospital is a large 695-bed district general hospital that serves a population of more than 350,000 in the surrounding geographical region. It has the only Bariatric unit in the East of England deanery and hence a popular rotation for UGI trainees. There are also well-established Colorectal and Breast consultants within the department.

 

 

Subspecialty training opportunities

 

  • UGI - Large high volume Bariatric unit (6 consultants). Also perform other UGI and HPB benign procedures.
  • Colorectal - Colorectal cancer service (6 consultants). Cancer and benign procedures performed within a busy unit.
  • Breast - Cancer and benign service (3 consultants)

SpR Rota information

 

6 NTN registrars and 6 non-NTN registrars

On call commitments include 12 hour shifts (day and night). Second registrar on CEPOD operating during weekdays (08:00-17:30). On weekends, there is also a second registrar during ward rounds. Free on call room available.
