Tackling Differential Attainment (DA) in the East of England
Standing up for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI)

Who are we?

We are the Differential Attainment team, focused on tackling unexplained variation in performance and achievement between groups who share a protected characteristic and those who do not share the same characteristic, for example, ethnicity, gender, upbringing, neurodiversity and disability.

Our aim is to improve the training experience in East of England by addressing issues which fall under the Equality, Diversity and Inclusivity umbrella.

What do we do?

Our key projects aimed to mitigate differential attainment in the East of England are detailed below.  We have projects focusing on Educators and Learners.

  • EDI VR videos

Our team has developed VR videos addressing different EDI issues. They intend to make watchers think, feel and reflect.
Click on "How would you react?" to watch the clips.

  • Enhanced Induction Day

Aimed at International Medical Graduates (IMG), the induction day helps trainees get accustomed with their new working environments aligned with GMC guidance.

Join us at our next events in 2025: 11 March, 1 August, 23 September, and 10 December.

Please contact Annie Sowinska (annie.sowinska@esneft.nhs.uk) or click on "Onboarding IMGs" (above) for further details

  • Resources for learners, educators and HR

Our team develops materials for learners, educators, HR and medical staffing.
Click on "Resources for learners and educators" for further information about our educators' development days.

Access our "enhanced induction guidelines for NHS Trusts" and the "De-biasing toolkit for recruitment processes".

  • Safe spaces for raising concerns

We are soon going to have a form on this website where you can raise concerns in a safe space.

  • S.T.A.R. Course

Synergy, Time management, Art/Empathy in medicine, Resilience and Recovery.

A comprehensive course to help trainees along the so-called hidden curriculum (unwritten rules and unspoken expectations)

Click on "Onboarding IMGs" (above) for further details

  • The EDI Reciprocal Mentoring Program

Aimed at long-term development of the deanery and its workforce in embracing the principles of EDI within their individual work environment. Click the link above for more details.
