Extra-curricular Opportunities for Trainees

Ample opportunities exist for Plastic Surgery trainees in the East of England to develop management, leadership and educational skills.

For example, ever since the inception of the Chief Residents programme, a number of plastic surgery senior trainees have become Chief Residents, taking part in a formal "mini-MBA" development programme delivered via the prestigious Judge Business School, as well as undertaking service improvement projects within their departments.

Trainees rotating through Cambridge also have the opportunity to become Clinical Supervisors to medical students from the University of Cambridge Clinical School.

The Cambridge Plastic Surgery department also has a steady flow of students attached to it, via the Student Selected Component (SSC) and Student Selected Project (SSP) modules available to Year 4 and Year 5 clinical students.

Trainees who wish to formalise their teaching skills have the opportunity to undertake post-graduate qualifications in Education, and more details can be found here.
