James Paget Hospital is a district general hospital based in Norfolk that covers a population of 230,000 residing in Great Yarmouth, Lowestoft and Waveney. It has strong affiliations with the University of East Anglia. The General Surgical department based at James Paget is well-established with enthusiastic consultant trainers including the TPD (Ms Sarah Downey). The hospital is reputed for good operating logbook numbers as per feedback from numerous previous trainees within the region.

 

 

Subspecialty training opportunities

 

  • UGI - Benign UGI unit (3 Consultants). Laparoscopic cholecystectomies and limited anti-reflux procedures performed.
  • Colorectal - Colorectal cancer service (4 consultants). Cancer and benign procedures performed.
  • Breast - Cancer and benign service (3 consultants)

SpR Rota information

 

2 NTN registrars and 6 non-NTN registrars

On call commitments include 24 hour on call shifts (normal elective day until 17:30 and then covering overnight). Weekend shift covers the whole weekend.

Rota is run by Mr Vamsi Velchuru (Colorectal consultant). Study leave/annual leave is also approved by Mr Velchuru as well.
