Hinchingbrooke Hospital
Hinchingbrooke Health Care NHS Trust provides health care for the people of Huntingdonshire and surrounding areas. More than 161,000 people rely on the hospital for a range of services. The hospital is a modern purpose-built building opened in 1983. It is conveniently located 10 minutes walk from Huntingdon Railway Station and close to the Town with uncluttered road access and plenty of car parking. The hospital has 266 beds, including 24 specifically for day cases, located in the Treatment Centre, the £22 million unit which opened in November 2005. The hospital also has a £1.2 million state of the art Medical Assessment Unit.
The General Medicine Department provides a comprehensive service in clinical medicine and is committed to developing sub-specialty services in Huntingdonshire and surrounding areas to meet the needs of patients in its own and other districts.
The Core Medical Training at Hinchingbrooke Hospital offers extensive experience in acute medicine and in general medical specialties. The rotation will consist of 4-12 month attachments in the IM1 year rotating to either Addenbrooke's Hospital or the Royal Papworth Hospital for the rest of their IM1 and IM2 rotation.
The hospital has an excellent library and an active Post Graduate Centre. Fortnightly sessions for IMT trainees to present clinical cases, journal articles etc. There is an active teaching programme with weekly bedside teaching aimed towards MRCP/PACES and weekly dedicated IMT teaching focused on clinical topics. There is a very high pass rate in MRCP/PACES exams. In addition there are weekly department of medicine meetings, Grand Rounds and Postgraduate lectures along with specialty meetings and MDTs.
