The East & North Herts NHS Trust operates 4 hospital sites. The Lister Hospital in Stevenage is the main hospital which has acute medical admissions. Mount Vernon Cancer Centre in Northwood is a regional cancer hospital. Hertford County Hospital in Hertford and QEII Hospital in Welwyn Garden City operate out-patient services. Stevenage is surrounded by pleasant countryside with all major airports within easy reach and good road and rail transport links with London (just less than half an hour by train).

More information on the Trust can be found on our Trust website.

The hospitals cover a population of 550,000 and one of the largest DGH hospital with all the main medical specialities represented. Facilities include a new state of the art block containing A&E and acute medicine. Although our Trust is in DGH setting, we have a regional Nephrology and Oncology Centre. Hertfordshire Cardiology Centre offer 24/7 primary PCI. We also have well equipped diagnostic imaging facilities and critical care services. The hospital offers a full range of support facilities including an excellent library and post graduate centre. Weekly teaching based on the needs of the curriculum and PACES teaching is arranged in addition to the regular hospital meetings such as grand rounds and Journal club. We provide extensive training for our CMTs with the specialties in the rotations including General Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Endocrinology & Diabetes, Gastroenterology, Elderly Care, Neprhology, Oncology, Stroke, Acute and Respiratory Medicine. There is limited opportunities for Neurology, Rheumatology, dermatology and Palliative Care on site. Each CMT will typically spend at least 18 months at the Lister in one of the major specialties with acute unselected take responsibilities, rotating every six months. The remaining 6 months will be spent either at Renal medicine at the Lister or Oncology at Mount Vernon, both operate selected speciality admission, without general medical oncall. There is regular dedicated teaching for the CMTs and there are excellent library and postgraduate facilities. There is access to a wide range of online jounals as well as to Medical Masterclass. There is a simulation suite in the Education Centre for use by the CMTs. The Trust has hosted the PACES exam on a number of ocassions. We also receive medical students from Cambridge and UCL. We have close link with University of Hertfordshire for teaching facuilities such as additional skills Lab and SIMs training.
