The East of England Postgraduate School of Psychiatry

Welcome to the Postgraduate School of Psychiatry. The site showcases the excellent training and education offered by Health Education East of England in Psychiatry. The site will provide a portal for prospective trainees interested in joining the specialty. In addition it allows ease of communication, the opportunity to share good practice and a forum for the promotion of new ideas and developments to existing trainees and trainers.

The East of England Postgraduate School of Psychiatry organises and delivers specialist psychiatric training within five NHS Trusts around the region. The School has a training capacity around 300 approved training posts, approximately equally divided into core and higher specialist training. Core training schemes are comprehensively delivered by individual Trusts. A core trainee  typically rotates within the Trust they were allocated to upon appointment.

There are various opportunities to gain advanced subspecialty experience in psychiatry. These placements which could lead to a Royal College recognised endorsements on the CCT are advertised across the higher training schemes and applied for on a yearly basis.  These include posts in Liaison psychiatry, Substance Misuse, and Rehabilitation Psychiatry.  There is also a liaison post with Older Adults, which is based in Cambridge.

The School is run by an Operational Board, which consists of representatives of all participating Trusts, all programme directors of the six subspecialties, representation for academic training, trainee representation and a representative of senior management. This Board meets every 3 months, but there is a very active "virtual" community of trainers and trainees who keep in touch through email and twitter.

Please feel free to contact the Head of School (Anna Conway-Morris) or the individual programme directors if you would like further information about applying to the East of England - we'd love to hear from you and believe we offer high quality training in an attractive part of the UK.

You can also follow us on Image and Image to hear about ongoing developments in psychiatry training in the East of England and across the country.
