Success: what lies behind the Mask? An exploration of the imposter syndrome

Overview:

Have you ever experienced a sinking feeling of being 'found out'? Worried that someone will discover that you are not good enough after all? You are not alone, over 70% of the population experience this 'Imposter Syndrome' at some point in their lives. This workshop explores what the Imposter Syndrome is, why it develops and importantly, how to deal with and mitigate against the effects. And why it is not really a syndrome, but a phenomenon!

Outcomes:

Participants will leave equipped with the tools to identify it in themselves and others, and how to cope with and overcome the feelings.

The workshop will include:

  • what the imposter phenomenon is
  • why it isn’t a syndrome
  • how it differs from self-doubt
  • what are the possible causes and triggers
  • strategies for handling and overcoming imposter feelings
  • Re-writing your “story”
  • how to help others.
Career Planning - Returning to Work After A Break

This webinar has been specifically created to support clinicians who are returning to clinical practice after a break. The focus is on clinicians who are returning after: 

  1. Taking time out to focus on academic research / business (fellowship, MD, PhD or OOPE)

No matter what stage you are at in your career, feedback will have been integral part to your education, training, and professional working lives. One of the interesting features of feedback is that there really is an art form to this, but you may not have necessarily had an opportunity to take stock and reflect on how you do this both from the perspective of giving feedback but also how you act on feedback that is given to you.

All of us would like to manage our time better and there are ways that you can do this. It can be harder when we are returning to work after a break. Systems, processes and people will no doubt have changed and of course you will have altered your thinking and approach to work as a result of your break. Your working patterns may have changed because you - work less than full time or you may need to leave at a set time due to other commitments.

This session really gets you to think about what you can do to take control of how you work to be more effective. By identifying some less useful habits and the thought-processes behind them, we’ll create strategies and approaches for changing your behaviour and approach to time.
