Exam Support Workshops

The course is currently being run virtually. Priority is given to trainees that are known to the PSW and have had to repeat exams twice or more.

They are delivered as 3 hour sessions over two consecutive weeks. You are expected to be able to commit to both sessions.

The workshop is open to up to 20 trainees.

Who runs the workshop?

The workshop is to be facilitated by two psychologists in conjunction with Hammet Street Consultants and the PSW

Dr Claire Illingworth

 

 

 

 

Dr Claire Illingworth is a Clinical Psychologist who has specialised in working with doctors for 4 years. Claire initially developed a two year project with the East of England Deanery aimed at mitigating the effects of secondary traumatic stress for paediatric trainees. This work was presented at the Royal College of Paediatric Child Health Conference and at the European Conference for Physical Health in Paris. More recently, Claire has started working at Hammet Street where she provides therapy, training and consultation. Claire has also worked in the NHS for over 20 years across a wide range of services. She is now based in the Neuropsychology Department at Addenbrooke’s Hospital. She has a particular interest in working systemically to understand the challenges faced by patients, families and staff.  

Dr Emma Lishman

 

 

 

 

A Clinical Psychologist and the Clinical Lead for Hammet Street Consultants. Emma has specialised in working with doctors for the past 7 years both in her role at Hammet Street and within the NHS. Her work includes providing therapy, supervision, training and consultation. She has a good understanding of both medical training and the NHS environment and the systemic challenges doctors can face.

Who can attend?

To be eligible for the workshop, you will need to meet some of the following criteria:

  • Health Education England East of England doctor or dentist in training
  • Have had two attempts or more at a given exam
  • Experiencing anxiety around exams which may be effecting clinical work/exam preparation

 

Where are the workshops held?

Virtual workshops currently held on Zoom

What is the structure of the workshop?

The session is interactive and varied in it's activities. These may include:

  • Group discussions
  • Case Studies
  • Experiential individual exercises
  • Presentations
What is the focus of the workshop?

The workshop will focus on a variety of aspects to exam preparation, which include:

  • Practical Guidance for exam revision including time management to support study and prioritisation in context of work/life issues.
  • Generic exam revision techniques
  • Managing self – sleep, care of self during exam times
  • Coping strategies relating to exam anxiety
  • Placing exam success in the bigger picture of life
  • Opportunities for peer networking and support
Is the workshop specific to my specialty?

No. There will be trainees attending from a range of specialties in the workshop. 

The workshop focuses on generic exam workshop techniques and strategies.
