Psychological Support

Throughout training, psychological support may be beneficial to the trainee. There are a range of reasons why a trainee may benefit from psychological support, this can include a significant life event, suffering from stress and/or anxiety, a way to improve and better understand behaviour due to experiencing a significant event at work. Evidence suggests that psychological treatments works well for emotional, mental and behavioural issues.

The PSU can make referrals for psychological support once they have a PSU referral has had a Case Manager meeting. Hammet Street, the PSU provider, works a lot with trainee doctors and the PSU has had good feedback from trainees around the support they provide.

The PSU can offer 6 sessions, although additional support sessions can be provided on an individual basis. 

The provider offers a range of services and tailors it to the trainee, these include CBT and counselling. 

The service can be accessed within 24 hours of the PSU meeting with a trainee.
