The Peterborough GP Training Programme was one of the first schemes to be set up in the early 1970s and is now over 50 years old! It is a well-loved scheme with a strong alumni who came together to celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2023.
The main philosophy of the scheme continues primarily to focus on training excellent GPs. We believe in focusing on the traditional, core values of general practice whilst looking towards the future and innovative changes. We hope our graduates leave training with the skills to take general practice into the future as a sustainable model and career.
The scheme is privileged to have a rich variety of Trainers and Training practices scattered over three counties (Cambridgeshire, Lincolnshire & Northamptonshire). The diversity of Training Practices range from inner city to sub urban to rural practices. The vast majority of practices in Peterborough and its surrounding town and villages are training organisations. Our trainers span a large breadth - from recently qualified to late-career GPs. Many of our trainers completed the Peterborough training programme themselves.
All trainees are posted to two different Practices during their training enabling them the opportunity to experience a varied range of General Practice.
