Have you ever been in a situation where you want to challenge someone’s behaviour - but you didn’t know how to do it or what to say?
As part of our Primary Care School Anti-racism strategy, we have commissioned 12 x 90 min Active Bystander Training workshops, facilitated by the ‘Active Bystander Training Company’.
Attendance every 3 years is also a requirement for new Educator recognition and ongoing recognition.
The sessions aim to help Primary Care Colleagues (Specialty doctors, Educators and wider workforce colleagues) across the region to challenge poor behaviours which may have become normalised over time. The session includes self-coaching techniques to help you keep a cool head when you’re faced with a challenging situation - and assertive language devices which you can use to make sure your voice is heard if you want to raise a concern.
Dr Bill Irish says:
“Trainees and students from minority and ethnic groups continue to experience racism and a poor educational experience within the NHS. It is the clear responsibility of all educators and trainees to challenge this appalling status quo. We must become better at calling out micro-aggressions and poor behaviour when we see it – however uncomfortable it makes us feel. We underestimate the impact that our actions, or lack of actions, can have. This workshop will give us examples and the tools to act. Thank you for standing up to the plate on this vital issue.”
