Intensive care medicine (ICM) Training in the East of England 

Welcome to the East of England Intensive Care Training website! 

This website is run by trainees and trainers in the region and is designed to act a central hub from which to access information and links to training information around the region. 

About us

The East of England has a strong history of delivering excellent training in Intensive Care Medicine; where the training needs of Single, Dual (Anaesthesia and Emergency Medicine) and Triple (Acute Medicine, Renal Medicine, Respiratory Medicine) Higher Speciality Trainees are all supported within the East of England ICM training programme.  Currently the region has around 60 CCT trainees enrolled onto the ICM programme and each year we continue to expand our clinical and academic training as well as support, within the limits of the programme, less than full time and out of programme opportunities. Alongside formal Higher Specialist Training in ICM our regional ICUs also support numerous doctors as part of their Foundation, Core or allied Specialist training programmes as well as doctors undertaking specialist fellowships or portfolio pathways.   

Intensivists enrolled onto the ICM CCT programme work closely with the ICM Training Programme Directors and Regional Advisor to develop an integrated clinical training programme that, as well as achieving the aims of the ICM curricula, will address your individual training needs. For those residents undertaking Dual or Triple CCT training the ICM training leads will also liaise frequently and work closely with your allied specialty training leads to ensure your full programme requirements are met and rotations coordinated. Wider training and programme requirements are supported by the Head of School of Anaesthesia and ICM, the Deputy Deans and Dean of the East of England Deanery, Health Education East of England, together with the Deanery’s extensive administration teams.

ICM Training Representatives  

We are lucky to have two proactive ICM Trainee Representatives who provide an essential link between the ICM training leads and you the ICM residents, representing your views and providing regular feedback to the Training Programme faculty. The ICM Reps also run the ICM East of England Trainee WhatsApp group which provides a forum for sharing vital training updates, facilitates training discussions, allows mutual support and encourages networking with your fellow East of England Intensivists in Training. Please contact the Trainee Reps should you want to join this group.
