Transitioning to the 2021 Curriculum

Between August 2021 and the end of July 2023 the RCoA requires all Anaesthetists in training to transition to the 2021 curriculum if their CCT date is after 31^st January 2024.

In order to transition smoothly from the 2010 curriculum to the 2021 curriculum the RCoA has produced guidance for trainees who have completed Core Level training and Intermediate Level training so they can start stage 2 and stage 3 of the new 2021 curriculum respectively.

This guidance lays out the extra experience and evidence needed to complete the Stage 1 and Stage 2 certificates for the 2021 curriculum. The Training Programme Directors from the East of England School of Anaesthesia have produced the East of England guidance they would like you to follow so they can assess your achievement of stage 1 or 2 competencies and therefore gain the relevant 2021 curriculum certification and this guidance is in the two documents below:

Of note during your Stage 1 top up year you only need to add evidence to the STAGE 1 TOP UP DOMAIN found in the core curriculum on the 2010 LLP or in the stage 1 curriculum of the 2021 LLP. You do not need to complete any Intermediate units of training and you should already have completed your Core Level training and therefore do not need to complete any of the other stage 1 domains. You can only start the Stage 2 domains once you have achieved your stage 1 certificate.

During your Stage 2 top up year you only need to add evidence to the STAGE 2 TOP UP DOMAIN found in the Intermediate Curriculum of the 2010 LLP. You do not need to complete any Higher units of training during this year. You will convert your LLP to the 2021 curriculum at the start of your Stage 3 training once you have achieved your stage 2 certificate.
