Paediatric Emergency Medicine (PEM) Simulation Day
The method of hi-fidelity Simulation training is now well-established as one of the best tools of learning in the medical training which brings the experience very close to the real world. The Health Education, EoE is running 8 courses of Paediatric Emergency Medicine simulation training in the region for all ST3 trainees in Emergency Medicine. DRE-EM trainees who are now in the year of their EM+PEM training, are also expected to attend on one of the days.
This course is FREE to East of England Emergency Medicine ST3/DRE-EM trainees and will be available on our Educational Booking Platform, Bridge.
A trainee has only one opportunity to attend this one day course in the region which will be run in a number of venues across the region this academic year. There is a maximum of 9 spaces available per course, and registration spaces will be capped and closed up to 2 weeks before the event unless spaces are full. Bookings are on a first come first serve basis on Bridge, and it is worth booking SL despite being on the Waiting List due to potential last min dropouts.
A [Reminder Email] will be sent to Registered Delegates only, and if you are unable to make it to the day - it is imperative you get in touch with our School Admin, Reona (rcc59@cam.ac.uk) and the Organiser(s) Cc'd in the same email.
What to expect on a PEM Simulation Day:
The simulation day may start with an introduction. Each trainee will be asked to manage a sick child in a simulation environment with the help of a nurse on a pre-determined scripts of scenarios. A scenario may run from 15 to 30 minutes; whilst one trainee manages the patient, the other trainees would watch the proceedings through a one-way glass panel or via an audio- visual system depending on the facility provided at the venue. Following the termination of the scenario, the facilitator may run a debrief session involving all trainees and the nurse so that all can participate and contribute to the learning objectives.
A feedback form will be shared at the end of the day, please ensure that, as a Delegate, you fill this out with reflections on how the day went for you
