Here you will find some key events and meetings that will happen over the course of the year. In every training year, for a trainee starting in August, you will need to have an educational supervisors report completed by the end of November (interim) and May (full). Your ARCP takes place annually in June (if an August starter and not out of sync, e.g. due to maternity leave).
It is your responsibility to be aware of these requirements and ensure they are completed on time. We would always recommend making contact with your educational supervisors plenty of time in advance of deadlines.
First Tuesday in August - GP speciality training induction
Please start to familiarise yourself with your Fourteen Fish portfolio. Ensure you have completed a placement planning meeting for your first post and set some PDP items up.
ST1 - Over these first weeks the training programme directors (TPDs) will meet with you one to one to discuss your training and any particular learning needs.
ST2 - as you move into general practice we will aim to offer you a session in early August on how to get the most out of your GP post/ tips and tricks! We also suggest that you have an early discussion with your clinical supervisor about QIP ideas.
We would encourage to you make contact with your Educational supervisor (ES) to make introductions.
Weekly teaching starts. You will be sent a timetable of the dates for this. Please ensure you have completed your study leave request if in a hospital post.
This is when we usually run our first communication skills workshop on two separate dates. This is an all day event. You will need to ensure you can attend at least one of the sessions.
You will need to complete your first ESR by the end of this month. This is an interim ESR and will review the evidence in your portfolio to date. You will need to complete your Self-rating in preparation for this. Please contact your ES by the beginning of November to get this meeting booked.
During this month, the TPDs meet with the ST3s to review their training to date.
Options for innovative posts (ITPs) for the ST2 year will be sent out to current ST1s. Descriptions of these posts can be found here.
You will be given the option to rank your top 3 preferences for these posts. We will endeavour to allocate you to your highest ranked choice but cannot guarantee and specific post. Once we have allocated the ITPs the GP practices for ST2 and ST3 will be allocated. You will be notified of this sometime between January and February.
Half day teaching resumes after the Christmas break.
