What is Simulation?
Simulation is a technique of learning which is applicable to all healthcare professionals at various levels. There is strong evidence of effectiveness of simulation training. Simulation based education (SBE) improves quality of care, experience and patient safety.
Simulation training is provided in more relaxed environment by educators. This can cover a range of training activities. Simulation promotes the more effective use of existing resources. SBE is less intimidating and mitigates the risk of involving real patients. Both technical and non-technical skills can be learnt in simulation environment.

Simulation Standards and Strategies
The HEE simulation-based education (SBE) framework defines the vision and expectations for the delivery of SBE across England. It provides a national, strategic approach to SBE that will be locally led and delivered. This strategic approach is necessary to:
- Ensure equity of access
- Provide patient-centred, service driven SBE
- Encourage quality of provision
- Provide value for money
- Promote sharing and collaboration
- Promote innovation
