I don't understand my ARCP outcome.

You can find more information on our ARCP Outcomes page.

You can also find detailed information on all ARCP outcomes in the Gold Guide 10th Edition.

Form R Part B - How do I complete one? When do I submit it and how long is it valid for?

The Form R part B is available for all Resident doctors undertaking their Core Training and Higher specialty training via the trainee self service system (TSS)

You will be required to submit a Form R part B at the beginning of your training period and then every year for your Annual Review of competence progression (ARCP). There may be occasions you will be required to complete your Form R part B more than once a year which will include;

  • 6 months following an ARCP outcome 2/3
  • Prior to taking parental leave
  • Prior to an inter-deanery Transfer (IDT)
  • Prior to a period of out of programme (OOP)
  • Revalidation purposes

The Form R part B is valid for a maximum of 8 weeks from the date the Form R is signed.

How often will I have an ARCP?

Ordinarily ARCP's are held annually however, Resident Doctors that receive an outcome 2 or 3 at their ARCP will receive an ARCP again 6 months from the receipt of this outcome. An up to date Form R Part B and Educational Supervisors Report (ESR) will need to be completed for all ARCPs.

If you are resigning from training, going on maternity leave or completing an Inter-Deanery Transfer (IDT) you will need to complete an ARCP before these events take place.

If you are expecting your ARCP but have not received confirmation of the date, please contact england.assessment.eoe@nhs.net

I am on OOP – do I still need an ARCP? What do I need to submit?

The ARCP is an annual process so will still be carried out even if you are on OOP. Form R Part B is always required. Please visit the following page for a detailed guide on evidence to submit whilst on OOP: Out of Programme (OOP) and Maternity Leave | East of England

If you are on an OOPR, you should also submit an academic report which can be found here ARCP documents | East of England. Further information on OOP can be found here.

I'm going on maternity leave, how do I prepare for my ARCP?

If you are due to go on maternity leave, please notify your TPD.

You will require an ARCP before you go on maternity leave, so an up to date Form R Part B will need to be completed.

You will also need to complete a form which details the start/end dates of your maternity leave. This will help us to ensure your records are up to date before you leave. The form is located HERE.

Please also complete a CCT calculator in preparation for your pre maternity leave ARCP. This will help us to ensure your CCT date is correct before your leave. We advise using the JRCPTB template which can be located HERE.

How will going LTFT affect the ARCP process?

You will still be required to have an ARCP every 12-15 months even though you are LTFT.

In preparation for your ARCP, please submit a CCT calculator to help with accurate adjustment of your CCT date. We recommend using the JRCPTB template which can be found HERE.

You can find out more information on LTFT and how to apply HERE.

My placement is incorrect, what do I need to do?

Inform the NHSE EoE Programmes Team (england.edit.eoe@nhs.net), inform your TPD and ensure your ePortfolio is up to date. If no placement, we won’t be able to access your portfolio which will lead to delays in your ARCP.

How do I edit my placement details on the ePortfolio?

If you are unable to do this yourself via the ePortfolio, you should contact the e-portfolio team and request that they amend your placement.

If you are on OOP or Parental Leave, you may need to complete a form to retain access to the portfolio. Please contact the portfolio team for guidance on this process.

How and when do I apply for a Period of Grace?

You must discuss your intention to apply for a POG with your TPD prior to making an application. You must apply in writing to your TPD for a POG at least six months prior to your CCT/CESR(CP) date.

The application should be copied to the Programme Management team (england.edit.eoe@nhs.net).

The maximum duration of a POG is six calendar months. There is no pro-rata modification for less than full time working.

Please note that POGs is a part of the terms and conditions of employment and is not covered by the Gold Guide.

You can find more information on the Programmes and Information website.

I am a Military trainee within the East of England, when will my ARCP be?

All Defence Deanery specialty postgraduate doctors in training occupy posts in specialty training programmes approved by the GMC, and their progress will be monitored as required by the GMC-approved curriculum and programmes of assessment for the relevant specialty. The ARCP panels will normally be attended by the Defence Postgraduate Medical Dean or their nominated deputy and, as for civilian ARCP panels, a proportion of Defence Deanery ARCP panels must include external representation.

Following the successful completion of either a full programme of specialty training or a combined programme and an award of a CCT, any service medical officer seeking accreditation as a DMS consultant will be presented to an Armed Services Consultant Appointment Board for confirmation of NHS equivalence and suitability for consultant status in the armed forces.

If you are a Military trainee within the EoE and have not been invited to your ARCP please contact the team directly england.assessment.eoe@nhs.net

I am IDT'ing in/out of the region, what do I need to do?

All trainees joining the east of England region via the IDT route will need to contact england.assessment.eoe@nhs.net before their next ARCP is due. This will help to ensure that your ARCP is held at the correct time.

For outgoing trainees using the IDT route to leave the east of England region, you will require an ARCP before you leave. Please contact england.assessment.eoe@nhs.net to ensure this is arranged for you.

You can find out more details on the IDT process at the NHSE EoE IDT homepage.

How do I apply for study leave?

You can find full information on the study leave process via the EoE Study Leave homepage.
