Out of Programme (OOP) and Maternity Leave
Revalidation
As a trainee in East of England, your designated body is Health Education East of England and the current Responsible Officer is Professor Bill Irish, Postgraduate Dean, for the purposes of revalidation. If you are currently Out of Programme or on maternity leave your designated body and Responsible Officer remain the same.
While you are Out of Programme you will need to continue collecting evidence for your revalidation. This guide outlines the minimum you are expected to provide for your annual assessment while you are Out of Programme or on maternity leave, and ensures that your Responsible Officer has all the necessary information for your revalidation recommendation when the time comes.
OOPT – Out of Programme for Training
When you are taking time out of programme for approved clinical training (OOPT) you will need to:
- Maintain Registration and License to Practice with the GMC
- Participate in the Annual Review process including:
- Submit a completed Form R (Part B)
- Submit appropriate evidence of acquisition of competencies required by the specialty curriculum to the LETB’s ARCP panel including Educational/Clinical Supervisor’s report
OOPE – Out of Programme for Experience
When you are taking time out of programme for clinical experience (OOPE) you will need to:
- Maintain Registration and License to Practice with the GMC
- Participate in the Annual Review process including:
- Submit a completed Form R (Part B)
- Submit evidence of participation in the appraisal or review process in your host organisation (NB: you will need to collect supporting information for this)
OOPR – Out of Programme for Research
When you are taking time out of programme for research (OOPR) which contributes to your CCT you will need to:
- Maintain Registration and License to Practice with the GMC
- Participate in the Annual Review process including:
- Submit a completed Form R (Part B)
- Submit formal assessment documentation to the annual review panel including Academic Supervisor’s and Educational Supervisor’s reports
- Adhere to the GMC’s guidance on Good Practice in Research
When you are taking time out of programme for research (OOPR) which does not contribute to your CCT you will need to:
- Maintain Registration and License to Practice with the GMC
- Participate in the Annual Review process including:
- Submit a completed Form R (Part B)
- Submit evidence of participation in the appraisal or review process in your host organisation (NB: you will need to collect supporting information for this)
- Adhere to the GMC’s guidance on Good Practice in Research
OOPC – Out of Programme – Career Break
While you are taking time out of programme for a career break (OOPC) you will need to:
- Maintain Registration and License to Practice with the GMC
- Participate in the Annual Review process including:
- Submit a completed Form R (Part B)
- In addition, in the unlikely event that you undertake any activity in your capacity as a registered medical practitioner, you will need to:
- Submit evidence of participation in the appraisal or review process in your host organisation (NB: you will need to collect supporting information for this)
Maternity Leave
While you are on Maternity leave you will need to:
- Maintain Registration and License to Practice with the GMC
- Submit a completed Form R (Part B)
