Oral Surgery Specialty Training - FAQs
This is variable and is dependent on completion of dental core training, or equivalent training. Experience in a wide range of dental training settings including, but not exclusively, in Oral and Maxillofacial surgery posts is beneficial.
Training posts are very popular and competitive. Therefore is advisable in order to progress your career by engaging in as much postgraduate study as you can to support your application. This may include a full range of audit experience, undertaking poster presentations or journal publications, success in the MFDS/MJDF and other qualifications such as a diploma in sedation.
Demonstrate a passion for Oral Surgery and a desire to perform it with finesse.
No, but proactive individuals may consider engaging in a concurrent MSc. or have such a qualification already.
A consultant post is an NHS Trust appointment and in some posts this may require extended training both in the scope of surgery and the wider provision of healthcare including supervision and training.
