I now work as a Senior Dental Officer providing IH and IV sedation, domiciliary care and I am part of the epidemiology team collecting data for PHE. I have been an ES for our service since 2021. Practice Address: Dental Healthcare Suffolk, Hillside Clinic, 7 Hillside Road, Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk. IP32 7EA
Google Map Link

Description:
Our long standing Bury St Edmunds dental practice which relocated to our current site in April 2018 has 6 brand new, fully equipped modern dental suites which are fully HTM01-05 compliant. There is an OPG machine on site. We have had a foundation dentist at our Bury St Edmunds clinic since 2012 so there is an established list of patients.

Hillside clinic is part of a county-wide salaried dental service operating across Suffolk. The dental team consists of 10 Dentists/ Senior Dentists, a Specialist in Special Care Dentistry and a Dental Therapist. They are supported by a Business Manager, an Oral Health Promotion team and administrative staff. Our Dental Nurses are some of the best in the business and we actively promote whole team participation. In addition, an oral surgery service and OOH service also operates from our clinic. We are part of East of England Community Health and Care NHS Trust and work jointly with the salaried service in Cambridgeshire which also has FDs. Foundation training in this environment is really well supported - the team is close knit, friendly and helpful to each other.

Inhalation sedation is offered at all our sites and we also run an IV sedation service and a hospital based General Anaesthetic service at which we would welcome any DFT to gain experience of if they were interested. Our excellent service has been recognised by the BDA Quality in Dental Services award consistently since 2012.

We recognise that as a FD you will need to gain a grounding in the basics of dentistry before taking on more complex cases. We ensure that the trainee is assigned a list of non special care patients requiring a full range of dental care. There is then ample opportunity to take on more challenging patients or to take part in other services such as GA/sedation should the FD wish to do so later in the year.

Location:
Bury St Edmunds is a thriving market town in Suffolk. We have an on site car park at the dental practice. Great shopping is near by as well as a wealth of options for eating out and entertainment. Bury St Edmunds has good transport links including to nearby Cambridge (30 mins), London (90 mins) and it's just under an hour to Norwich by car or train.

Other Points of Interest:
If you enjoy good food and socialising this could be the job for you. Working as part of such a big team, there are always social activities organised within the workplace from eating out to book groups - it is always good fun and a great way to let off steam at the end of a busy week.
All clinicians meet quarterly as a peer review group, which provides a great opportunity for DFTs to practice case presentations, get second, third, and fourth opinions and to discuss clinical matters in a convivial atmosphere.

If you are looking for a rewarding, satisfying job with great team working, we're listening!

Diss, Norfolk,

Diss Dental Health Centre

Murtuza Burhan BDS, M Imp Dent (RCSED), FICOI (USA), MDS Prosthodontics (India), Diplomate IBP (India)
GDC Number: 281053

I qualified with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) in India in 2004 and went on to complete a Master's programme in Prosthodontics in 2008, a specialty I have been passionate about ever since. With around 18 years in practice, I bring a wealth of hands-on clinical experience to everything I do, including my role as an Educational Supervisor.

Teaching has always been close to my heart. Before moving to the UK, I spent a number of years as a Professor of Prosthodontics in India, mentoring both undergraduate and postgraduate students through the challenges and rewards of dental training. That experience gave me a genuine appreciation for how much the right support can shape a young clinician's confidence and career.

I hold a Membership in Implant Dentistry from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, am a Fellow of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists (USA), and am a Diplomate of the Indian Board of Prosthodontics. Clinically, my interests lie in Prosthodontics, Aesthetic Dentistry, Implants, & Invisalign and I have delivered countless smile transformations through veneers, bridges, implants, dentures, and restorations over the years.

Since 2023, I have been an Educational Supervisor for Foundation Dentists in the UK. I take real pride in this role. Our practice offers a busy and varied clinical environment that will genuinely test and develop an FD's skills, and I am fully committed to being on hand with guidance, feedback, and encouragement every step of the way. My goal is simple: to help each Foundation Dentist grow into a confident, competent, and caring clinician.

Outside of work, I love spending time with my family and stay active through cricket, table tennis, and tennis. Much like dentistry, sport rewards patience, precision, and practice.

Rajaram Khilari BDS
GDC Number: 314481

I am a passionate dental professional with over 15 years of clinical experience, having earned my Bachelor of Dental Surgery in 2011. With a strong commitment to advancing my clinical expertise, I have been practicing implantology for more than 10 years. I have also completed a Postgraduate Fellowship in Implantology in India and am a certified IV sedation practitioner in the United Kingdom.

I have a special interest in oral surgery and implantology and currently practice IV sedation to deliver dental treatments to highly anxious patients, focusing on providing safe, comfortable, and high-quality care. Known for my patient-centered approach, I believe in consistently delivering the best possible outcomes while maintaining the highest standards of clinical excellence.

Beyond clinical practice, I am deeply passionate about teaching and sharing knowledge. I strongly believe that teaching and learning are two sides of the same coin—when you teach someone, you simultaneously learn from the experience. This is why I find immense satisfaction in mentoring and educating fellow colleagues, contributing to their professional growth and confidence. I also believe that continuous learning and staying updated within the profession are essential for delivering high-quality care and fostering self-confidence in both practice and teaching.

Outside of dentistry, I enjoy playing cricket, photography, and sketching, reflecting a creative and balanced approach to life. I live by the philosophy, “Do what you love rather than love what you do,” considering it the key to a happy and fulfilling life. My commitment to both personal and professional growth continues to shape my journey as a clinician, mentor, and lifelong learner.

The practice is equipped with advanced technology, including digital radiography, intraoral scanners, apex locators, endomotors, implant motors and on-site OPG imaging.

We operate a fully digital workflow, with intraoral scanners used for all laboratory work, including dentures, crowns and bridges. This provides Foundation Dentists with valuable exposure to contemporary digital dentistry in everyday practice.

The practice is led by Principal Ara Madani, who is committed to supporting professional development within a friendly and collaborative environment. Our clinical team includes five full-time and two part-time dentists, three dental hygienists and a dental therapist. We have clinicians with special interests in endodontics, oral surgery (including sedation), prosthodontics and implantology. This breadth of expertise offers excellent opportunities for Foundation Dentists to observe, learn and develop their skills across multiple disciplines. There will also be opportunities to gain exposure to implant dentistry and Invisalign treatment workflows.

Our experienced and supportive team includes twelve dental nurses, three receptionists and an administrator, ensuring the smooth and efficient running of the practice. We pride ourselves on maintaining a professional, well-organised and welcoming environment, which is ideal for a Foundation Dentist starting their career.

We provide care for a large and diverse patient base of approximately 25,000 patients, offering both NHS and private treatment to adults and children. Many of our patients have been attending the practice for over 40 years, reflecting the strong relationships and continuity of care we provide. We were inspected by the CQC in September 2022 and received an exemplary report.

The practice is housed in a characterful listed building that has been thoughtfully modernised to create a bright, comfortable and accessible clinical environment. Surgeries are located on the ground and first floors, including one wheelchair-accessible surgery, with administrative offices on the second floor. Staff parking is available on-site.

Halesworth , Suffolk ,

Hooker House Dental Practice

Daniel Evans BDS MFGDP(UK) PgCert
GDC Number: 78354

I qualified from King’s College London in 2000, and worked at my FD practice for 6 years as an associate. I have been an ES since 2004, and in 2007 I bought this well-established mixed practice. In 2004 I achieved the MFGDP diploma, and in 2012 the PgCert in Dental Education. My special interests include cosmetic dentistry, oral surgery and prosthodontics, and implantology. I focus on providing dentistry to a high standard and I have a holistic approach to dental care, believing that the best form of advertising for a practice is a happy patient. I have a relaxed and approachable nature, and I thoroughly enjoy teaching and employing an FD in the practice, watching their development and self-improvement throughout the foundation year. I live near Norwich with my wife Kate, a photographer, and my two daughters Georgie and Sophie. We came to Norfolk 25 years ago, and found the quality of life to be fantastic, enjoying a variety of different sports and local culture. I enjoy cycling, paddleboarding, sailing and snowboarding.

Joshua Davies BDS KCL, MJDF
GDC Number: 193162

I have been an Associate Dentist at the practice for over 10 years and have been an Educational supervisor for over 5 years now.

We have had multiple FDs stay on as associates over the years and have a low turn over of staff which is testament to the supportive and collegiate environment the practice fosters.

I provide not only comprehensive NHS dentistry but cosmetic treatments like tooth whitening, Invisalign, composite bonding and FDs will get exposure to these along with the latest digital technology.

we have 3 Intra-oral scanners in the practice and I encourage FDs to use them daily as this will soon become the standard of care for all patients NHS and Private.

Dan & I are members of the local BDA committee and we encourage FDs to be members as this provides great opportunities to network with other dentists in the area at organised social/CPD events across the year.

Practice Address: Hooker House Dental Practice, Quay Street , Halesworth , Suffolk . IP19 8EP
Google Map Link

Description:
Hooker House is a large impressive Victorian building located in the centre of Halesworth. The practice has undergone an extensive refurbishment, with two new surgeries, a new reception area, a new decontamination room compliant with HTM 0105 and staff area. The FD’s surgery is very well equipped, with fibreoptic handpieces and piezo scaler, and new instruments and materials. We have recently acquired digital radiographs and the Wave One Reciprocating Endo System, as well as three intra-oral scanners.
As well as the full range of NHS services available, we also offer cosmetic treatments, specialist bruxism splints, flexidentures, anti-snoring appliances, invisalign and implants. There are four other associates working at the practice, and the reception and nursing staff are very experienced and loyal to the practice. The nursing staff are all GDC registered.
Being one of the only NHS providers in the area, we have an established patient base as well as attracting 10-20 new patients a week.
We regularly socialise as a practice. We have also held CPD sessions at the practice with a visiting speaker, and previous FDs have taken part in visiting local schools for dental education. I have also taken the Foundation Dentists to work in a Dentaid charity bus each year. The staff are all local, which means that they know the patients well; this puts the FD at ease in the practice. The staff enjoy having an FD in the practice and I thoroughly encourage staff to be involved in the FD's development during the foundation year.

Location:
Halesworth is a historic market town, with Hooker House well known as a landmark on its town trail. As well as local amenities and attractive shops, there is a local swimming pool, gym/leisure centre and library. The coast is only 20 minutes away, with the beautiful Suffolk towns of Southwold and Aldeburgh if you like unspoilt beaches and water sports. Norwich is a 35 minute drive, and boasts excellent shopping, theatre and nightlife. Ipswich is similarly only 40 minutes drive or train ride, so the options for a prospective FD would be to live in Norwich/Ipswich and commute (previous FDs have preferred this because they have liked living in an urban environment), or to rent in one of the surrounding towns or villages. Halesworth has good links with London, being on a direct train line to Liverpool St, and is only 1½ hours away from London by car.

Previous FDs have very much enjoyed working at the practice because of the types of patients we attract- we have loyal patients who have visited the practice for generations, and those that are new to the area that have retired from London. There is a very relaxed and informal feel to the area, and patients tend to have a high level of trust in our services, which helps to break down barriers and build a good rapport.

Other Points of Interest:
My aim is to provide the FD with a relaxed learning environment, free of pressure to meet targets, and the opportunity to work closely with well-trained staff and friendly patients. We have a lot of new patient enquiries and a substantial book of existing patients so there will be no shortage of patients with a wide range of dental needs, enabling the FD to gain a high level of experience and confidence in treatment throughout the Foundation Year.

The practice is spacious, sociable, well equipped and forward-thinking, and I feel the FD would benefit from the year in such a beautiful market town.

Stowmarket, Suffolk,

Wedgwood House Dental Practice

Jillian Geaney BDS, MDentSci (Oral Path), Diploma in Implantology, MSc (Medical Education), FHEA.
GDC Number: 63650

Practice owner since 1999 and ES since 2002, I am also part time clinical lecturer at the Royal London Dental School so I am well accustomed to the difficulties faced by freshly qualified dentists graduating from dental school to general practice.
My clinical interests are in occlusion and implantology but I enjoy all aspects of dentistry and I am still very proud to be a dentist after all my years in practice.
My work at the practice and the Royal London has brought an interest in dental education and I am undertaking a research degree in education as a part time postgraduate student.
I have recently taken up a position as deputy lead for paper 1 of LDS RCS which has brought about an appreciation of the difficulties that overseas dentists face. I have also travelled quite extensively assisting a friend and colleague teaching aspects of practical occlusion.
I was never an FD myself as there were few places available when I graduated but achieved my VT number by equivalence. I look forward to welcoming new colleagues to the practice.

Kate Pearce BDS, BSc (Hons) PGCert (ClinEdu)
GDC Number: 251817

Since graduating from Peninsula Dental School in 2014, I have endeavoured to focus on patient-centred care while fostering the growth of newly qualified dentists. My journey began as Jill's Foundation Trainee, and now, I enjoy passing on the baton in offering guidance, mentorship and encouragement to those embarking on this exciting new chapter in their professional lives.
At Wedgwood House, I provide both private and NHS dental services, ensuring patients of all ages receive compassionate, high-quality care. I especially enjoy working with children, promoting good oral hygiene habits from a young age to set them up for lifelong dental health.

A highlight of my career so far has been when I had the opportunity to volunteer as a dentist for the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, providing essential dental care to athletes from across the globe. Working behind the scenes of such a prestigious event, I was able to support competitors in maintaining peak oral health, ensuring they were in the best possible condition to perform at their highest level. The fast-paced environment and diverse patient needs made for an exciting and rewarding experience, reinforcing my passion for dentistry in high-performance settings. It was a privilege to contribute to such an inspiring event, and the experience further strengthened my commitment to delivering high-quality care in every aspect of my practice.

I look forward to welcoming new Foundation Trainees to our practice and supporting them as they refine their skills, build patient rapport, and develop confidence in their abilities as practitioners.

Practice Address: Wedgwood House Dental Practice, 100 Bury Street, Stowmarket, Suffolk. IP14 1HF
Google Map Link

Description:
Wedgwood House Dental Practice is a family practice with many patients attending since the practice opened in 1999. We have an open door policy to try to encourage the FD to share their work and experience and issues and to feel well supported. A diverse range of patients awaits our new FD's with all manner of presenting problems and we look forward to striving for excellence with you for the patient's best interest.

We are fully computerised, using the Dentally system from summer 2026, and digital radiographs.
Each treatment room is spacious, ensuring ease of movement and efficient workflow. Surgeries are equipped to facilitate both right- and left-handed working, allowing seamless adjustments to meet individual preferences. We have friendly and supportive staff who want to help you all the way to your final report (FRCP).

The practice is located in a street leading into the main part of the town and is within 10 minutes' walk of the station, but with the convenience of a rear car park if you drive.

Location:
Stowmarket is a large market town with about 24,000 inhabitants which includes the surrounding small villages. The town sits on the A14 road which links Birmingham to Felixstowe and the main Norwich to London railway comes right to the town centre.
Market day is on Thursdays and Saturdays and we have local gyms, museums, theatres, cinemas and places of interest. Cambridge and Norwich are within an hour's drive and London is 1 hour and 20 minutes away by train. Ipswich Town football club has been newly promoted to the Premier League if you are a football fan and other sports such as golf and sailing are nearby.
Rent is competitive compared with city rental and you can choose to live in Norwich to be close for the study days or Stowmarket or Ipswich if you prefer a quieter vibe.
Stowmarket is full of people in need of dentistry and we are struggling to meet demand. You will be important in this small community.

Other Points of Interest:
We are once again a member of the Norfolk scheme after a short stay on the Suffolk scheme.
We strongly recommend networking with your new colleagues on the scheme to try and form friendship groups and to socialise with each other.
We choose to host two FDs at this practice and it appears to benefit both strongly. The support they provide each other goes well even though both traverse different paths over the year. In a tough year support is imperative to get you through.

Stowmarket, Suffolk

Wedgwood House Dental Practice

Practice Address: Wedgwood House Dental Practice, 100 Bury Street, Stowmarket, Suffolk, IP14 1HF

We look forward to welcoming our new foundation Dentists into our close-knit team. From sharing homemade treats and hosting our own friendly bake-off competitions, to catching up over afternoon tea and celebrating birthdays with team meals, we enjoy connecting beyond the day-to-day. Our spacious staff room gives us the perfect opportunity to come together for lunch, build friendships, and support one another.

The Costessey practice is just west of Norwich. This surgery runs 8.40-5pm and has 5 surgeries, a staff room and a designated sterlisation and radiography room (with intraoral and DPT machines). All rooms throughout the Plummers group are spacious and set out the same, meaning all the materials, equipment and positioning is the same, making working between two sites straightforward. The Costessey site has 3 receptionists and a sterilisation nurse.

By working across two practices it broadens your experience of providing NHS care. The two practices have slightly different feels and a different demographic of patients with different needs. This gives you a good insight into what type of practice you would like to work in going forward into becoming an associate. Working across two sites brings variety into the working week, which then flies by!

Second Practice Address: John G Plummer and Associates - Thorpe, 83 Mary Chapman Close, Thorpe St Andrew, Norfolk. NR7 0UD
Google Map Link

Description:
This position is spread across two practices within the Plummer's group. The majority of the time will be spent at our Thorpe St Andrew practice, which is just east of Norwich. It is a purpose built practice with ten surgeries, one of which, along with a recovery room, is used by our oral surgeons to provide a Level two minor oral surgery service. Many FD's spend some time shadowing this for experience. The practice has a staff room and a designated radiography and sterilisation room. There is a large car park behind the building.

The practice runs a shift pattern of 8am-2pm or 2pm - 8pm. There are a number of associates working at this site, many of which have stayed on following their FD year and are just starting their careers. This has the advantage of getting to know a lot of local dentists and learning from their recent experiences too. The position will be taking over the list of the previous FD with some new patients likely included too.

Location:
Norwich has a wealth of things to offer, both old and new. It is built around the river Wensum with a historical Castle and Cathedral. A thriving city centre, with a number of different areas to shop, eat or drink around the city, while being close to the coast and Broads for great days out. It is about 100 miles from London, which can be easily reached in just under two hours on the train.

As mentioned the primary practice sits east of Norwich in Thorpe St Andrew. This is a small suburb about ten minutes drive from the centre. It is well contacted via bus routes.

Norwich is a great, safe city where you can choose to be busy or choose to escape it all.

Other Points of Interest:
Plummers is one of the largest NHS family run practices. It first started in 1971 and has expanded to 11 sites across Norfolk and Suffolk, offering both NHS and private care. Within the group we are fortunate to have a number of specialists including, implantologists, periodontists, orthodontists, pediatric dentistry and oral surgeons, along with some practioners providing facial aesthetics. Having expereinced having a number of FD's over the years, all staff are familiar with the process, happy to help and encoraging for you to get stuck in, enjoy the year and maximise your experience.

The practice encourages development both clinically, holding in house CPD nights, and socially through practice socials, rounders, badmington evenings and a practice golf day. Many FD's, especially if new to the area, find the social element useful for settling in and make long-lasting freindships.

Norwich has a number of options for accommodation, with most choosing to live close to the city centre. We area happy to advise and help should you need this.

Lowestoft, Suffolk,

John G Plummer and Associates - Lowestoft

Samuel Ssenyonga BDS Peninsula 2015 , Level 7 Certificate in Dental Implantalogy 2024, BSc 2009,
GDC Number: 258271

I qualified from the Peninsula School of Medicine and Dentistry (Plymouth) in 2015 and completed my Foundation Training at Corton Road Dental Surgery. Following my Foundation Training, I stayed on as an associate dentist with the practice and have remained there ever since. Prior to this I graduated from the Universitry of Essex with a degree in Biomedical Sciences and worked as a Biomedical Scientist before entering dental school. I had a great experience during my foundation training and that was due to the friendly practice environment and supportive and caring educational supervisors (ES) that I had. I have been an ES since 2021 and have enjoyed this role greatly. I enjoy all aspects of dentistry and in 2024 I completed a Level 7 Certificate in Dental Implantology. I hope to progress in this aspect of dentistry. Outside of dentistry, I play football, tennis and enjoy spending time with friends and family!

Dominic Ellis BDS BSc (hons)
GDC Number: 295898

I graduated from Kings College London in 2021 and completed my DFT in Lowestoft (the same practice as I currently work at as an associate dentist). Over the following years, I have given advice to new dentists completing their DFT which I have loved doing, highlighting that I had a keen interest in becoming an ES and initiating this role in 2025.
I am currently enrolled in a diploma for orthodontics which has aided me in providing this service on the NHS at the practice.
Outside of dentistry, I have a keen interest in playing golf and watching football.
