Rotational Post information
Luton and Dunstable Hospital is the 'hub' of the rotation where all emergencies and in- patient treatments take place. The DCT also need to attend Bedford Hospital and Milton Keynes General Hospital in a weekly rotation. Oncall duties are only at Luton and Dunstable site.
Travelling Commitment
Distance between Luton and Dunstable Hospital and Bedford Hospital is 22 miles, and 18 miles to Milton Keynes General Hospital. Public transport is available but it is preferable by car. All hospital has staff car parking which is chargeable.
Additional Information about the Post
The post-holder will be exposed to a full range of oral and maxillofacial pathologies, oral medicine, both simple and complex dento-alveolar surgery, patients with complex medical conditions, paediatric and adult facial trauma, skin malignancies, head and neck cancer diagnosis and management, TMJ surgery and sialoendoscopy. IV sedation for oral surgery is also undertaken regularly.
Protected time for teaching takes place every Friday afternoon and attendance is complusory. All trauma patients will be discussed. Various topics related to OMFS are delivered regularly by senior staff.
Each DCT is allocated an educational supervisor and an audit will be required to be completed. There are four regional teaching day at Cambridge and required to attend at least three. There is also an annual junior papers day and DCTs are encouraged to present on cases of their choice/ audit, or in poster format.
Each week there is also a protected admin time.

Pattern of Working
The approximate number of treatment sessions per working week is: On average, DCT attends 3 consultant clinics and three theatre sessions, either under LA or GA per week.
The standard working hours are: 1:12 full-shift, starting at 8.00 am ward round at Luton and Dunstable Hospital only. Night shift will involve Friday, Saturday and Sunday, followed by off duty for two days. Night shift on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday will be followed by off duty on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. DCT on call during day time will have no other fixed clinical commitments. Working in Bedford Hospital and Milton Keynes General Hospital is from 8.30 am to 5.00 pm.
There is an on-call commitment, the pattern of which is:

Educational and Induction programme Including Trust and Library Facilities
The Educational and Induction Programme includes:
Induction
A Trust induction will be provided.
A Regional induction will be provided.
There will be opportunities for shadowing before the post commences.
Trust induction, including OMFS department induction, takes place one day before the start of the post
Teaching programme
4 whole day regional teaching during the 12 months duration of the post.p>
Local programme
Each DCT is allocated to an educational supervisor who is one of the OMFS consultants. Protected teaching time every Friday afternoons. Clinical governance half day every two months
Other opportunities
Each DCT is required to complete at least one audit project.
Local facilities
Office space is shared between DCTs with full computer and Internet access. Full library service is provided in the post-graduate centre (COMET). There is a grand round every Tuesday lunch time and all staff are encouraged to attend
Other facilities
There is a childcare facility adjacent to the hospital.
Comprehensive library facilities are available. Food and drink are available from the hospital restaurant with outof-hours vending machine. An on-site social club is also available for staff to use.

Rotational Post information
The posts are based at Addenbrookes hospital . All on-call commitments are at Addenbrookes Hospital ( there is no on-call over night for DCTs). Regular MOS, clinics, theatre and day surgery sessions. There are day surgery lists at Ely day surgery unit.
Travelling Commitment
The distance to Ely day surgery unit is 17 miles. 30 minutes by car. There is a train service between Cambridge and Ely.

The post-holder will gain experience of all aspects of OMFS including
- Dento-alveolar surgery,

Rotational Post information
The rotation between sites is based on a 4 week cycle. Broomfield is the hub where all inpatient and emergency care is centralised. DCTs are assigned to cover emergency on a 1 in 8 split week cycle covering from 0730-2000 Monday to Saturday only. No overnight cover duties and no duties on a Sunday.
Travelling Commitment
Distance between Broomfield and Basildon is 20 miles. Driving by personal transport is recommended as there are no direct public transport links between the sites although there are bus/train routes with connections between the sites. Locations of train stations are not close to Hospitals and buses may require more than 1 connection. More information can be provided on request.
Additional Information about the Post
Clinical experience - includes assisting in Consultant and Specialty Dentists clinic- including secondary dentoalveolar referrals with co-morbidities, specialist CBCT review clinic, neonatal tongue tie MDT clinic, facial deformity MDT clinics, head and neck 2 week wait target clinic and specialist head & neck cancer MDT.
Treatment/surgical procedures- supervised dentoalveolar procedures under LA and GA with consultants and specialty dentists.
On-calls- Attending emergency department for maxillofacial injuries like mandibular/maxillary/zygomatic fractures, facial lacerations suturing under LA/GA, maxillofacial drainage of abscess and treating dental and oral & maxillofacial infections under LA/GA
ward rounds- to see post-operative patients after facial deformity correction, cancer surgery, trauma and dento-alveolar patients with co- morbidities
- Non-clinical experience – teaching sessions, audit, protected admin time,

Pattern of Working
The approximate number of treatment sessions per working week is: All DCTs will have an equal number of new and review clinics, local anaesthetic and GA supervised dentoalveolar lists and teaching sessions. Every Friday afternoon the DCTs are assigned to attend a teaching session led by a specialty dentist or the consultant. There is an annual programme of topics with some assignment to DCTs to present and discuss with the seniors attending. The Friday teaching is bleep free; all clinical activity for the DCTs is cancelled. Every attempt is made to allow the on call (1 in 8) DCT to attend as well. Additionally, once a month there is an audit/clinical governance, M&M PAN Essex, a meeting with designated DCT presentation/discussion opportunity as well as external teachers.
The standard working hours are: On-call week is from 7.30 AM to 8PM- 1 in 8 split week rota(Monday to Wednesday and Thursday to Saturday) shared amongst 8 DCTs. This is only when based at Broomfield Hospital where all emergency and inpatient care is centralised. The standard non on-call working week at spokes or hub starts at 8am and runs to 5pm. The DCT timetable is designed to allow rotation between the hub and designated spoke once every 4 weeks.

The details are:
DCTs are assigned to provide emergency duties on a 1 in 8 split week basis from 0730 am to 2000 pm. The hospital runs a 3 tier cover for emergencies. The consultants do a 'hot week' on call from Friday to Friday. Middle grades cover 0730-1800 on a day a week assignment. At any given time there is one DCT, one middle-grade and one Consultant on site from 0730-1800 Monday to Friday and 0730-1300 On Saturday. Thereafter the middle-grade and Consultant are off site and offer support remotely from 1800-2000 on Monday to Friday and 1300-2000 on Saturday. Juniors have access to middle-grade and Consultant advice at all times.
Educational and Induction programme Including Trust and Library Facilities

There will be opportunities for shadowing before the post commences.
The DCT1 timetable has been designed in such a way as to allow all shadowing prior to starting on-call/emergency work.
Teaching programme
East of England run a two day regional induction for DCTs at the start of the post. There are three further regional study days and a junior papers presentation day held throughout the year.
Local programme
All DCTs will be assigned a named Educational Supervisor from commencement. Every Friday afternoon the DCTs are assigned to attend a teaching session led by a specialty dentist or the Consultant. There is an annual programme of topics with some assignment to DCTs to present and discuss with the seniors attending. The Friday teaching is bleep free; all clinical activity for the DCTs is cancelled. Every attempt is made to allow the on-call (1 in 8) DCT to attend as well.
Additionally, once a month there is an audit/clinical governance, M&M PAN Essex meeting with designated DCT presentation/discussion opportunity as well as external teachers. There are ad hoc virtual and face to face teaching sessions organised by Consultants at lunchtime for juniors/middle-grades to attend.
Other opportunities
Ample opportunities for audit (primary or second cycle) are made available. Opportunities to conduct or complete ongoing departmental projects is encouraged. Support is provided for presentation of projects locally, regionally, nationally and internationally. Guidance and support is provided for projects that result in publication in national and international scientific journals.

Library and clinicians spaces available with PC access to all clinicians.p>
Other facilities
There are nursery facilities at all hospitals. There are food/drink outlets in hours and vending machines out of hours on all sites.

Rotational Post information
The rotation between sites is based on a 4 week cycle. Broomfield is the hub where all inpatient and emergency care is centralised. DCTs are assigned to cover emergency on a 1 in 8 split week cycle covering from 0730-2000 Monday to Saturday only. No overnight cover duties and no duties on a Sunday.
Travelling Commitment
Distance between Broomfield and Southend Hospital is 24 miles Driving by personal transport is recommended as there are no direct public transport links between the sites although there are bus/train routes with connections between the sites. Locations of train stations are not close to Hospitals and buses may require more than 1 connection. More information can be provided on request.

Clinical experience - includes assisting in Consultant and Specialty Dentists clinic- including secondary dentoalveolar referrals with co-morbidities, specialist CBCT review clinic, neonatal tongue tie MDT clinic, facial deformity MDT clinics, head and neck 2 week wait target clinic and specialist head & neck cancer MDT.
Treatment/surgical procedures- supervised dentoalveolar procedures under LA and GA with consultants and specialty dentists.
On-calls- Attending emergency department for maxillofacial injuries like mandibular/maxillary/zygomatic fractures, facial lacerations suturing under LA/GA, maxillofacial drainage of abscess and treating dental and oral & maxillofacial infections under LA/GA
ward rounds- to see post operative patients after facial deformity correction, cancer surgery, trauma and dento-alveolar patients with co- morbidities
- Non-clinical experience – teaching sessions, audit, protected admin time,

Pattern of Working
The approximate number of treatment sessions per working week is: All DCTs will have an equal number of new and review clinics, local anaesthetic and GA supervised dentoalveolar lists and teaching sessions. Every Friday afternoon the DCTs are assigned to attend a teaching session led by a specialty dentist or the consultant. There is an annual programme of topics with some assignment to DCTs to present and discuss with the seniors attending. The Friday teaching is bleep free; all clinical activity for the DCTs is cancelled. Every attempt is made to allow the on call (1 in 8) DCT to attend as well. Additionally, once a month there is an audit/clinical governance, M&M PAN Essex, a meeting with designated DCT presentation/discussion opportunity as well as external teachers.
The standard working hours are: On-call week is from 7.30 AM to 8PM- 1 in 8 split week rota(Monday to Wednesday and Thursday to Saturday) shared amongst 8 DCTs. This is only when based at Broomfield Hospital where all emergency and inpatient care is centralised. The standard non on-call working week at spokes or hub starts at 8am and runs to 5pm. The DCT timetable is designed to allow rotation between the hub and designated spoke once every 4 weeks.

The details are:
DCTs are assigned to provide emergency duties on a 1 in 8 split week basis from 0730 am to 2000 pm. The hospital runs a 3 tier cover for emergencies. The consultants do a 'hot week' on call from Friday to Friday. Middle grades cover 0730-1800 on a day a week assignment. At any given time there is one DCT, one middle-grade and one Consultant on site from 0730-1800 Monday to Friday and 0730-1300 On Saturday. Thereafter the middle-grade and Consultant are off site and offer support remotely from 1800-2000 on Monday to Friday and 1300-2000 on Saturday. Juniors have access to middle-grade and Consultant advice at all times.

There will be opportunities for shadowing before the post commences.
The DCT1 timetable has been designed in such a way as to allow all shadowing prior to starting on-call/emergency work.
Teaching programme
East of England run a two day regional induction for DCTs at the start of the post. There are three further regional study days and a junior papers presentation day held throughout the year.
Local programme
All DCTs will be assigned a named Educational Supervisor from commencement. Every Friday afternoon the DCTs are assigned to attend a teaching session led by a specialty dentist or the Consultant. There is an annual programme of topics with some assignment to DCTs to present and discuss with the seniors attending. The Friday teaching is bleep free; all clinical activity for the DCTs is cancelled. Every attempt is made to allow the on-call (1 in 8) DCT to attend as well.
Additionally, once a month there is an audit/clinical governance, M&M PAN Essex meeting with designated DCT presentation/discussion opportunity as well as external teachers. There are ad hoc virtual and face to face teaching sessions organised by Consultants at lunchtime for juniors/middle-grades to attend.
Other opportunities
Ample opportunities for audit (primary or second cycle) are made available. Opportunities to conduct or complete ongoing departmental projects is encouraged. Support is provided for presentation of projects locally, regionally, nationally and internationally. Guidance and support is provided for projects that result in publication in national and international scientific journals.

There are nursery facilities at all hospitals. There are food/drink outlets in hours and vending machines out of hours on all sites.

Rotational Post information
Ipswich hospital is the main base for duration the post, however each week (Tuesday -Friday) one DCT will go to Colchester Oral surgery Department doing clinics, minor oral surgery and theatre.
Travelling Commitment
Ipswich hospital is 2.7 miles away from the nearest train station with good bus links to the hospital. Park and ride is free for staff. Colchester Hospital is a 45 minute drive from Ipswich Hospital or a 20 minute train journey..
Additional Information about the Post
On-call, which is 9am-5pm, will have a focus on dental assessment for oncology and ward patients, management of dental emergencies and soft/hard tissue trauma.
Minor oral surgery you will gain experience of orthodontic extractions and exposures of ectopic teeth, removal of cysts/pathology, surgical removal of wisdom teeth and coronectomies plus more.
Every week on Monday afternoon there will be a timetabled teaching session with the educational supervisor or middle grade.
Each week there is also a protected admin time.
Protected time is given to attend the regional teaching and weekly Friday morning teaching. The department also holds monthly audit and clinical governance meetings. Encouragement is given to presenting projects and publications.

Travelling Commitment
The Royal London Hospital is 50 minutes by train from Harlow train station. DCTs are required to attend on Friday mornings for teaching, but are not required to be in Harlow that day if not on-call.

Additional Information about the Post
The friendly working environment of the unit with the experience offered gives excellent preparation for the MJDF/MFDS. The vast majority of trainees have been successful in their exam sittings. Timetabled teaching session fortnightly and quarterly CG meetings. The trainee will be encouraged to take at least one service improvement project/ presentation and study leave allocated for quarterly regional study day. Trainees obtain practical experience in Orthodontics with a on site Lab at the QEH and many have gone on to specialist training posts. Can get IV sedation experience with possible SAAD accreditation if interested.

Rotational Post information
All rotations are carried out at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital with the opportunity to visit James Paget Hospital to experience another hospital setting.
Each DCT is allocated a consultant with rotation every three months to provide a full range of experience in sub specialty areas including oncology, orthognathics and salivary..
Travelling Commitment
All duties a central to the NNUH, but if interested on gaining further experience, the James Paget hospital is 21 miles away. This provides day care operating and clinic experience.
Additional Information about the Post
As well as exposure to general surgery and oral medicine there are specialist oncology and orthognathic clinics run with full multidisciplinary interactions.
Opportunity to shadow the orthodontic team and develop additional competencies such as IV sedation via SAAD course..

Rotational Post information
Luton and Dunstable Hospital is the 'hub' of the rotation where all emergencies and in- patient treatments take place. The DCT also need to attend Bedford Hospital and Milton Keynes General Hospital in a weekly rotation. On-call duties are only at Luton and Dunstable site.
Travelling Commitment
Distance between Luton and Dunstable Hospital and Bedford Hospital is 22 miles, and 18 miles to Milton Keynes General Hospital. Public transport is available but it is preferable by car. All hospital has staff car parking which is chargeable.
Additional Information about the Post
The post-holder will be exposed to a full range of oral and maxillofacial pathologies, oral medicine, both simple and complex dento-alveolar surgery, patients with complex medical conditions, paediatric and adult facial trauma, skin malignancies, head and neck cancer diagnosis and management, TMJ surgery and sialoendoscopy. IV sedation for oral surgery is also undertaken regularly.
Protected time for teaching takes place every Friday afternoon and attendance is complusory. All trauma patients will be discussed. Various topics related to OMFS are delivered regularly by senior staff.
Each DCT is allocated an educational supervisor and an audit will be required to be completed. There are four regional teaching day at Cambridge and required to attend at least three. There is also an annual junior papers day and DCTs are encouraged to present on cases of their choice/ audit, or in poster format.
Each week there is also a protected admin time.

Rotational Post information
The posts are based at Addenbrookes hospital . All on-call commitments are at Addenbrookes Hospital ( there is no on-call over night for DCTs). Regular MOS, clinics, theatre and day surgery sessions. There are day surgery lists at Ely day surgery unit.
Travelling Commitment
The distance to Ely day surgery unit is 17 miles. 30 minutes by car. There is a train service between Cambridge and Ely.

Rotational Post information
The rotation between sites is based on a 4 week cycle. Broomfield is the hub where all inpatient and emergency care is centralised. DCTs are assigned to cover emergency on a 1 in 8 split week cycle covering from 0730-2000 Monday to Saturday only. No overnight cover duties and no duties on a Sunday.
Travelling Commitment
Distance between Broomfield and Basildon is 20 miles. Driving by personal transport is recommended as there are no direct public transport links between the sites although there are bus/train routes with connections between the sites. Locations of train stations are not close to Hospitals and buses may require more than 1 connection. More information can be provided on request.

Pattern of Working
The approximate number of treatment sessions per working week is: All DCTs will have an equal number of new and review clinics, local anaesthetic and GA supervised dentoalveolar lists and teaching sessions. Every Friday afternoon the DCTs are assigned to attend a teaching session led by a specialty dentist or the consultant. There is an annual programme of topics with some assignment to DCTs to present and discuss with the seniors attending. The Friday teaching is bleep free; all clinical activity for the DCTs is cancelled. Every attempt is made to allow the on call (1 in 8) DCT to attend as well. Additionally, once a month there is an audit/clinical governance, M&M PAN Essex, a meeting with designated DCT presentation/discussion opportunity as well as external teachers.
The standard working hours are: On-call week is from 7.30 AM to 8PM- 1 in 8 split week rota(Monday to Wednesday and Thursday to Saturday) shared amongst 8 DCTs. This is only when based at Broomfield Hospital where all emergency and inpatient care is centralised. The standard non on-call working week at spokes or hub starts at 8am and runs to 5pm. The DCT timetable is designed to allow rotation between the hub and designated spoke once every 4 weeks.
There is an on-call commitment, the pattern of which is:

The details are:
DCTs are assigned to provide emergency duties on a 1 in 8 split week basis from 0730 am to 2000 pm. The hospital runs a 3 tier cover for emergencies. The consultants do a 'hot week' on call from Friday to Friday. Middle grades cover 0730-1800 on a day a week assignment. At any given time there is one DCT, one middle-grade and one Consultant on site from 0730-1800 Monday to Friday and 0730-1300 On Saturday. Thereafter the middle-grade and Consultant are off site and offer support remotely from 1800-2000 on Monday to Friday and 1300-2000 on Saturday. Juniors have access to middle-grade and Consultant advice at all times.
Educational and Induction programme Including Trust and Library Facilities
The Educational and Induction Programme includes:
Induction
A Trust induction will be provided.
A Regional induction will be provided.
There will be opportunities for shadowing before the post commences.
The DCT2 timetable has been designed in such a way as to allow all shadowing prior to starting on-call/emergency work.
Teaching programme
East of England run a two day regional induction for DCTs at the start of the post. There are three further regional study days and a junior papers presentation day held throughout the year.
Local programme
All DCTs will be assigned a named Educational Supervisor from commencement. Every Friday afternoon the DCTs are assigned to attend a teaching session led by a specialty dentist or the Consultant. There is an annual programme of topics with some assignment to DCTs to present and discuss with the seniors attending. The Friday teaching is bleep free; all clinical activity for the DCTs is cancelled. Every attempt is made to allow the on-call (1 in 8) DCT to attend as well.

Support is provided for presentation of projects locally, regionally, nationally and internationally. Guidance and support is provided for projects that result in publication in national and international scientific journals.

Rotational Post information
All rotations are carried out at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital with the opportunity to visit James Paget Hospital to experience another hospital setting.
Each DCT is allocated a consultant with rotation every three months to provide a full range of experience in sub specialty areas including oncology, orthognathics and salivary..
Travelling Commitment
All duties a central to the NNUH, but if interested on gaining further experience, the James Paget hospital is 21 miles away. This provides day care operating and clinic experience.
Additional Information about the Post
As well as exposure to general surgery and oral medicine there are specialist oncology and orthognathic clinics run with full multidisciplinary interactions.
Opportunity to shadow the orthodontic team and develop additional competencies such as IV sedation via SAAD course..

Rotational Post information
Ipswich hospital is the main base for duration the post, however each week (Tuesday -Friday) one DCT will go to Colchester Oral surgery Department doing clinics, minor oral surgery and theatre.
Travelling Commitment
Ipswich hospital is 2.7 miles away from the nearest train station with good bus links to the hospital. Park and ride is free for staff. Colchester Hospital is a 45 minute drive from Ipswich Hospital or a 20 minute train journey..
Additional Information about the Post
On-call, which is 9am-5pm, will have a focus on dental assessment for oncology and ward patients, management of dental emergencies and soft/hard tissue trauma.
Minor oral surgery you will gain experience of orthodontic extractions and exposures of ectopic teeth, removal of cysts/pathology, surgical removal of wisdom teeth and coronectomies plus more.
Every week on Monday afternoon there will be a timetabled teaching session with the educational supervisor or middle grade.
Each week there is also a protected admin time.
Protected time is given to attend the regional teaching and weekly Friday morning teaching. The department also holds monthly audit and clinical governance meetings. Encouragement is given to presenting projects and publications.

Clinical days are a mixture of Special Care and Paediatric patients. Approximately 2 days/week at the Grays clinic and 2 days/week at Colchester. Not expected to travel between sites on the same day. Friday afternoon at Colchester Hospital for adult GA list..
Travelling Commitment
Public transport (rail) from London to Grays and Colchester possible. Public transport between sites not possible. Approximately 1 hour 15 minutes to drive from Grays to Colchester, however would not be expected to travel to both clinics on the same day.

Pattern of Working
The approximate number of treatment sessions per working week is: Approximately 4 days clinical with a mixture of new patients and treatments. Approximately half day protected admin time. Approximately one theatre session/week.
The standard working hours are: 8.30-16.30 daily unless AM GA session when day commences at 8am.
There is NO on-call commitment.
Educational and Induction programme Including Trust and Library Facilities

A Trust induction will be provided.
A Regional induction will be provided.
Opportunities for shadowing before the post commences are subject to local negotiation.
