I qualified from Cardiff in 1986. During my student elective, I had the opportunity to observe Professor Linkow in New York, which sparked my early interest in implant dentistry. Following an SHO post in oral and maxillofacial surgery, I entered general dental practice and have since completed numerous year-long courses in implantology.
I gained my MFGDP in 1996, followed by a Diploma in Implant Dentistry in 2005, and an MSc in Implantology in 2006. Over the course of my career, I have placed well over 4,000 implants and carried out more than 500 sinus and block grafts.
For the past 35 years, I have been the principal of two multi-surgery practices located in Watford and Bedford. I have a particular interest in sinus ridge augmentation and the rehabilitation of compromised dentitions. I’m also passionate about professional development and have fostered a culture of continual learning within my practices, with all of my associate colleagues enrolled in postgraduate programmes at Master’s level.
I have been a ES since 1996.
I hold a primary qualification in Dental Law and a PG Cert in Education from the University of Bedfordshire. I’m also an accredited Mentor for the Association of Dental Implantology.
I am honoured to serve as Course Director for Implantology at Warwick University. I also lead the Surgical Modules on Block Grafting, Sinus Grafting, and Soft Tissue Grafting for Master’s students. Additionally, I am an examiner for the Diploma in Implant Dentistry at the Royal College of General Dental Practitioners and the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
To further broaden my clinical knowledge, I have completed advanced courses in Reconstructive Dentistry, Crown and Bridgework, and Endodontic Treatment.
Most recently, I earned a Master’s Degree in Restorative and Aesthetic Dentistry from Manchester University, achieving a merit pass and receiving the award for highest achiever. I was also honoured with the prestigious award for the highest mark in a complex clinical case, competing among 60 expert dentists from around the world in the field of restorative dentistry—an accolade presented by the Dean of Manchester Dental School.
Jayna Patel BDS (Manc), MFDS RCPS (Glasg.) PgCert Dental Education MSC Aesthetic and Restorative Dentistry ('23-'26) I graduated with my dental degree from the University of Manchester in July 2018. The team includes experienced associates, qualified nurses, hygienists, and a supportive admin team. The patient base is diverse and provides trainees with excellent exposure to a broad range of treatments in a busy, well-supported environment.
The dental practice is based in Goldington, a well-established area on the eastern side of Bedford, Bedfordshire. Goldington offers a welcoming and community-oriented environment, making it an ideal setting for both patients and dental professionals.
Goldington benefits from being part of the wider Bedford area, it has a range of amenities including supermarkets, local shops, schools, parks, and community centres, making it convenient for both residents and visitors. It provides a calm and stable patient base and a supportive local population.
There can be varying levels of access to specialist dental services, which means patients often rely heavily on general dental practices like ours for a wide range of treatments. This can create a busy and demanding workload, but also presents a great opportunity to make a significant impact within the community.
Goldington is well-served by schools, healthcare centres, sports and leisure facilities, and retail outlets. Bedford town centre, just a short distance away.
The local population is diverse in age and background, with a mix of long-term residents and newer families moving into the area. There is a steady demand for both NHS and private dental care, including preventative, restorative, cosmetic, and family dentistry.
Goldington has excellent transport connections. It is just a few miles from Bedford railway station, which offers direct services to London St Pancras in around 35–45 minutes. The area is also well connected by local bus services and major road links, including the A421, A6, and nearby access to the M1 and A1.
For dental professionals, the area presents a varied and rewarding patient base, professional growth opportunities, and a supportive environment in which to live and work.
Our practice is proud to be one of the longest-standing training practices in the region, with a strong track record of mentoring and supporting dental trainees in a professional, friendly, and enriching environment. We place a high value on education and development—most of our colleagues have completed or are currently working towards postgraduate qualifications or master's degrees, creating a culture of learning, ambition, and clinical excellence.
As a trainee here, you can expect to gain a broad and deep foundation in general dentistry, with access to opportunities that go far beyond the basics. We routinely carry out complex restorative, cosmetic, and implant work, which provides an ideal learning environment for those with interests in oral surgery, prosthodontics, and aesthetic dentistry. If you're committed to learning and willing to get involved, you'll find there's a great deal to gain over the course of the year.
We also hold the local Minor Oral Surgery (MOS) contract, which gives trainees the unique opportunity to observe and learn from oral surgeons who carry out advanced surgical procedures. Shadowing and mentoring are a key part of the experience here, and we make a point of involving our trainees in as much as possible, depending on their interests and progression.
Outside of the practice, Goldington and the wider Bedford area offer a comfortable and accessible place to live. Bedford is a lively market town with good local amenities, plenty of green spaces, and excellent rail links to London, making commuting or weekend travel easy. Accommodation is readily available and typically more affordable than in larger cities, with options ranging from shared housing to private rentals.
We genuinely believe that trainees who choose our practice will not only develop strong clinical skills but also feel part of a supportive and motivated team. If you’re enthusiastic, curious, and committed to making the most of your foundation year, this is an ideal place to grow both personally and professionally.

My interest in training dental nurses, combined with my ongoing commitment to further education, motivated me to apply for the Education Supervisor (ES) role. I have been serving as an ES since 2011. The expertise I gained through my prosthodontic training, along with my mentoring roles—both as a single and joint ES—have enabled me to create a safe and supportive learning environment for Foundation Dentists. This allows them to confidently apply the theoretical knowledge acquired, during their undergraduate training, to smoothly transition into independent practitioners.

I provide a wide range of treatments including minimally invasive aesthetic dentistry, root canal treatments, and Comprehensive Invisalign. I’m passionate about supporting FDs in finding their own clinical path — whether that's in general practice, aesthetic dentistry, or beyond. My aim is to create a calm, open, and encouraging environment where FDs can grow in confidence and develop sound clinical judgement.
Outside of dentistry, I enjoy hiking, playing badminton, and have recently started going to yoga. I also studied music and love attending live concerts.

We are small family practice in the centre of a market town. The FD's roomy surgery is the newest in the practice with electric motor and built in endo unit. The practice is fully computerised which has recently been updated to accept both 3D imaging and AI for dental imaging. We have an extensive and established patient base enabling us to initally tailor the FD's patients to their experience and need before subsequently provide more challenging new patients. Staffing levels are appropriate and experienced in relation to providing treatment for FD's. We also have specialists working in our practice who are also keen to teach.
Tring is just north of Watford and Hemel Hempstead but within easy commuting distance of north London (although best by car as the train station is not in the middle of the town).
We are an established Foundation Training practice with a wealth of experience and understanding. We will endeavour to enable our FD's to fullfil their training obligations in a supportive environment where with suitable ambition the diligent will thrive.

Broadwater Dental Practice I qualified from the University of Manchester in 2004 and moved back to London for my DFT year. I was working as an associate for 14 years before taking over Broadwater Dental Practice in 2018. I passed the MFGDP (RCSEng) exam in 2007 which consolidated my knowledge and completed a Diploma in Restorative Dentistry (RCSEng) in 2011 which allowed me to develop a specialist interest. I have completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Dental Education which exposed me to different teaching and mentoring styles. I have since then also achieved my PG cert in Dental Implantology. I aim for my foundation dentist to have both an enjoyable and excellent introduction into general practice and I will do my best to support this.

What Our past FDs say about our practice: "My time as an FD at Poynters Road Dental Practice allowed me to make a smooth transition from an undergraduate to associate. The staff, who regularly work with the FD, were very experienced and were familiar with the trials and tribulations for a newly qualified dentist. I was able to hone my skills on a number of procedures due to the wide patient base that attended during my time. With ample clinical freedom, general dentistry became second nature and towards the end of the year I was able to experience formulating larger treatment plans. Samir provided me with all the support I needed for this and much more, and it was a pleasure to complete my training at this practice."
