About the course

Our comprehensive three-year GP Training programme is closely mapped to the Royal College of General Practitioners curriculum. The course is currently undergoing some exciting developments in line with National changes to GP training.

YEAR 1 and YEAR 2

During your first 2 years of the Scheme you will spend time in Hospital posts, General Practice and possibly in Innovative Community posts. Innovative posts combine a Community Specialty (such as Sexual Health, Liason Psychiatry and Public Health) with time spent in General Practice.

YEAR 3

The final year is spent in general practice, at a different practice from the first part of training.  We try to arrange for trainees to experience both town and country practice environments.

Half day-release education

Held at the Education Centre at the West Suffolk Hospital, our education programme runs for thirty weeks of the year and is based on the GP curriculum developed by the Royal College of General Practitioners.  Click to find out more…
