Southend University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and Bart's Health NHS Trust (3 POSTS)

The department at Southend University Hospital has 3 Specialty Registrar posts. 1 post is advertised in each annual National Recruitment process.  All the posts are linked to The Royal London Dental Hospital which is part of Bart's Health NHS Trust . Registrars spend time in both hospitals undertaking their clinical training and they also register for the postgraduate degree of DClinDent with Queen Mary University of London .The academic programme and research project are undertaken at The Royal London Hospital.

The clinical timetable includes Treatment Clinics, New Patient clinics, Review Clinics, and MDT's for orthognathic treatment, hypodontia and cleft lip and palate in both hospitals.

Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (Addenbrooke's), Luton & Dunstable University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and King's College London (Guy's Campus)

This post comprises 3 days each week at Luton & Dunstable University Hospital and 1 day each week at Addenbrooke's Hospital for the clinical training.

1 day each week is spent at King's College London (Guy's Campus)  for the academic and research component of the training.  The registrar enrolls for the postgraduate degree of MSc in Orthodontics from Kings College London .

Ipswich Hospital NHS Trust and Bart's Health NHS Trust

The post is linked to The Royal London Dental Hospital which is part of Bart's Health NHS Trust . The registrar spends time in both hospitals undertaking the clinical training and also enrolls for the postgraduate degree of DClinDent at Queen Mary University of London . Norfolk & Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and King's College London (Guy's Campus)

The clinical training is undertaken at Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital .

1 day each week is spent at King's College London (Guy's Campus) for the research and academic component of the training.  The registrar enrolls for the  postgraduate degree of MSc in Orthodontics from King's College London .

Norfolk & Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust(Addenbrooke's) and King's College London (Guy's Campus)

The clinical training is undertaken at Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital 2 days each week and Addenbrooke's Hospital 2 days each week.

1 day each week is spent at King's College London (Guy's Campus) for the research and academic component of the training.  The registrar enrolls for the  postgraduate degree of MSc in Orthodontics from King's College London .

Watford General Hospital and Eastman Dental Institute

The three year course will be divided into components. The theoretical teaching will be concentrated into one academic day per week throughout the first two years and takes place at the Eastman Dental Institute.  Clinical teaching and the treatment of patients will be carried out within the West Hertfordshire Hospitals Trust at Watford General Hospital under the direction of the consultants.  Approximately one day each week will be spent attending the Eastman Dental Institute in the final year for academic study and clinical teaching.

 

The clinical training will encompass a variety of appliance systems and will give the successful candidate a broad training in all aspects of orthodontics.  There will be the opportunity to treat patients requiring orthognathic surgery, and also those that require a joint orthodontic/restorative approach to their care.  The registrar will have a full caseload of patients that he/she will manage under the direct guidance of the consultants.  Experience is gained in the treatment of a wide range of cases, the treatment sessions.  The timetable includes new patient diagnostic clinics, review clinics, treatment clinics and monthly Joint Clinics with the Consultant in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery.  An interesting range of patients presenting with complex malocclusions provides excellent teaching material.

Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (Addenbrookes) and Guy's & St. Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust POST-CCST TRAINING POST

This post has sessions at both Addenbrooke's Hospital and Guy's & St. Thomas' Hospital .  Treatment clinics and New Patient clinics are undertaken in each hospital.  At Addenbrooke's Hospital the timetable also includes regular orthognathic, hypodontia and cleft MDT's,  Addenbrooke's Hospital is the 'hub' for the regional Cleft.Net.East cleft lip and palate team. At Guy's & St Thomas' Hospital the timetable includes regular hypodontia MDT's and supervision of postgraduate orthodontic students. The timetable at both hospitals includes administration sessions.
