The practice is situated in a small market town by the sea.  It is a popular tourist and retirement area that means we have a high number of temporary residents and also the practice population has a higher proportion of older people than average.

We have a strong training ethos: although we are not able to take cohorts of GP undergraduates because of restricted space, we do take single undergrads from Imperial College and we also host student pharmacists, student nurses and young people on work experience.

Our 2 Nurse Practitioners all work at advanced practitioner level, seeing and treating patients.  We have 5 Practice Nurses, and Health Care Assistants.  We also run a phlebotomy clinic

The local District Hospital is within 300 metres and we provide medical cover for the local community hospital.

Heathgate Medical Practice is situated in Poringland, the largest in a group of villages a few miles south of Norwich.  With a fast car (watch the speed camera outside the school) or blue light ambulance you can be in the NNUH within a few minutes.

We all love teaching and have been a teaching practice for nearly 20 years.  we are all involved from the admin and management team through the dispensary staff and nurses to the doctors.  Two of our previous trainees are partners, and may others are local GPs including trainers and other educators.  We like to support students looking at medicine as a career and at least 2 wh have spent time with us in their school years are now doctors and several more are at medical school.

We hope we provide first class clinical care as well.  Patient feedback suggests that we do.  As well as education we are at the forefront of general practice evolution, with two of our partners heavily involved in current developments.  So lots of heated debate and insight into politics of general practice as well.

Our practice is in the suburbs of Norwich about 15 minutes from the centre and the practice area extends out into the country.  At times you may be lucky enough to get home for lunch.

We are a friendly enthusiastic practice with teaching and training a very important part of our every day practice from all staff.  We enjoy having several trainees at a time and find this very beneficial to everyone's learning.  We are also a teaching practice for Norwich Medical School and currently teach year 5.  We encourage our trainees to become involved in helping with teaching, which is very enjoyable.  Over the past few years, we have put education very strongly at the forefront of the practice ethos.  The IT uses SystemOne.

We have lively business and clinical meeting which we strongly recommend our trainees attend, as these give a valuable insight into running a practice and give trainees an idea of how partnership operates.  We also discuss and keenly debate the recent guidelines and the implication on our practice.

We have a strong Gold Standards Framework pathway for end of life care, with regular monthly meetings and our trainees have found great benefit from attending these and getting involved in palliative care.

We have very good feedback from our trainees, and will try our best to help you get the most from your training.
