Bringing Forwards CCT Date

It is now possible where a trainee is making good progress that they may be eligible to bring forward their CCT date by up to four months. As such East of England has developed a policy as to how this will be delivered.

FAQs

What are the eligibility criteria? – All of the following criteria must be met to be eligible:

  • You must have passed both the AKT and SCA.
  • The most recent ESR states that you are competent/excellent in at least 10 of the 13 professional capabilities and meeting expectations in the others.
  • There should be no deficit in workplace-based assessments (Clinical Observation Tool, Clinical Assessment Tool, Clinical Case Reviews). Clinical Case Reviews must relate to actual clinical encounters.
  • There must be evidence of exposure within traditional out of hours.
  • The Quality Improvement Project should have been completed.
  • You must have a satisfactory Patient Satisfaction Questionnaire and Multi-Source Feedback for your ST3 phase.

  • Your most recent ARCP panel outcome must be an outcome 1.
  • You must not have any outstanding revalidation concerns.
  • You cannot be applying for a dual CCT in Public Health and GP.
  • Academic fellows may be eligible but the reduction in training time needs to come from the clinical component and not the academic component. You MUST have spent time in GP.

When should I apply to bring forward my CCT date? – You must be in ST3 and start the process not before or after 27 months of whole-time equivalent training. Late applications will NOT be considered.

What are the next steps? – It is your responsibility to highlight to your educational supervisor that you wish to bring your CCT date forward. If they agree that this is appropriate you will need to undertake a FULL ESR followed by an ARCP panel. The ARCP panel will happen centrally, but you are not required to attend this. Please ensure that your educational supervisor informs the local admin team such that a central ARCP panel request may be made.

How much time can I bring my CCT date forward by? – The maximum allowable is four months whole-time equivalent.

If the reduction in training time is agreed what happens then? – The central ARCP panel will seek confirmation from the Postgraduate Dean and if agreed will inform you of the new CCT date and liaise with the RCGP. It is your responsibility to start to apply to join the national performers list at that time.

What happens if I need to extend my training again for any reason? – Please note that the reduction of four months training time cannot be added to any subsequent training if an extension is required.

What happens if I disagree with the decision of my educational supervisor or outcome of the ARCP panel?  - The decision of your educational supervisor and ARCP panel are final and may not be appealed. You will need to complete the full 3-year programme.
