Specialist paediatric neurology training in the east of England is provided in a National Grid post based in Cambridge. These are exciting times for paediatric neurology with an appointment of a third specialist consultant in Cambridge. There are well established services delivered in all district general hospitals with paediatricians with an interest in paediatric neurology. There are regular out-reach clinics conducted across the region. In many of the district general hospitals there are paediatricians with a special interest in paediatric neurology who provide excellent local training. In addition there is a specialist post in Norwich with Dr Richard Beach who has an extensive paediatric epilepsy service. There are close working relationships with the community paediatricians across the region allowing excellent training both in the acute hospital and community settings for these complex patients. In some hospitals there are strong links with child psychiatry.
Whilst the opportunities in Cambridge for specialist training placements are limited there is plenty of opportunity to develop some experience regionally. There is a well established regional teaching programme. In addition there are a number of specialist meetings that take place on a regular basis. Details of these are attached.
