Level 1 (ST1-3) Regional Training days

Core training days

These days are fantastically well received with superb speakers coming to talk to us from hospitals around the country.

There are 4 core training days each year for ST1-3. We aim to include some subspecialty topics which you may not necessarily have much exposure or teaching on in district general hospitals. The days normally involve a morning of lectures with small group sessions in the afternoon. Most days are held in a Cambridge which is central geographically in the region.

Please note core training days are always the third Thursday of October, January, April and July, see below for details of the upcoming core training days or contact Manigeh Fanning  mf702@medschl.cam.ac.uk   - 01223 254846

Regional Induction

In September each year we hold an induction day for new ST1s to introduce some core members of the training team. We explain the eportfolio, ARCPs, workplace based assessments/Supervised learning events and exams. There are also discussions around topics such as Less than full time training, research opportunities and time out of programme. The date for this year Induction is on Monday 16th Sept 2019.

Ready for Registrar Simulation course

All ST have the opportunity to attend a free simulation course shortly before stepping up to registrar posts. With small group sizes, there is the opportunity to develop non-clinical skills including leadership and communication skills.

Study leave

All trusts in the region are informed of the dates well in advance of rota writing. Therefore it is expected that most hospitals should support study leave for these days without the need for swaps of on-call shifts. Should you have any difficulties getting leave please contact Dr Jonathan Campbell (ST1-3 Training Program Director).
