Less than full time training (previously known as flexible training) allows doctors to work part time in recognised training posts if they meet the eligibilty criteria. The majority of these posts in Paediatrics form part of job shares, although on some occasions stand alone posts exist, or a LTFT trainee may be working part time in a full time slot. Most of the trainees are ST 4 - 8, but it is possible to train as ST 1-3 part time. Although training is now competency based, trainees who work part time will take almost twice as long on average to complete training. Currently about 20% of paediatric trainees in the programme train LTFT.

There is some very useful information on the RCPCH website. To apply for LTFT please follow this link to the Less than Full Time Training section of this website.
