Across the east of England there are exciting developments in paediatric gastroenterology. In Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire (NSC) there has been a reorganisation of gastroenterology services to deliver an enhanced service to patients in the NSC Network and further afield across the east of England. Dr Robert Heuschkel has been appointed with a specialist team of nurse practitioners and dieticians in Cambridge. Dr Graham Briars will be moving to work with Mary-Anne Morris at the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital. It is envisaged that paediatric gastroenterology services will be developed on both sites. In addition, Dr Eltumi provides high quality gastroenterology training in Watford.
At present there is a regionally based training scheme for a paediatrician who wishes to develop an interest in gastroenterology utilising a two year training post. ST posts are available in Watford, Norwich and Cambridge and these posts will be reviewed and potentially reorganised over the coming year as the training programme is strengthened.. Although at present there is no National Grid training post in the east of England for paediatric gastroenterology the regionsal training posts have been used as stepping stones for National Grid appointments. We have also allowed trainees to undertake Out of Programme Experience in paediatric gastroenterology in a number of centres.
