The Educational Supervisor: My own particular clinical interests are in the management of General Dental Advanced Cosmetic and Aesthetic Restorative Dentistry, Periodontal Disease and Clinical Hypnosis. I successfully completed the Chris Orr course in 2014 and I am an Invisalign provider. I have an ongoing commitment to Postgraduate and Clinical Education. The practice itself has a long and proud tradition of being a Dental Foundation Training Practice and over 15 FDs successfully have completed their training here, including myself who qualified in Birmingham in 1998.
After a time interval as an Associate here at Wigston House, I am now the Practice Principal and now the approved Dental Educational Supervisor – probably the best indication of a successful Dental Foundation Training Practice. From my own experience, I well understand the transition necessary for a new graduate to a General Dental Practitioner Associate, right through to Principal. I am happy to help a new graduate through all of these stages. I am actively involved with out of hours dental emergency on call duties.
I am an elected Local Dental Committee member and actively participate in dental politics to help and encourage local General Dental practitioners.
I enjoy my time with my family, walking, cycling and swimming. I encourage and participate in many social events and help with charity and fund raising.
The Practice: Our clinical profile is strongly orientated towards a preventative, minimally invasive restorative philosophy. There is an opportunity to develop crown/ bridgework and rotary endodontic skills. I have several years experience in Relative Analgesia. The Practice is fully computerized R4 clinical + system and linked directly to the CPS (EDI). We also provide full modern digital radiography.
We have a private car park around the detached property. On entrance, we have an open spacious reception room. All five surgeries are fully equipped; two on the ground floor (DDA approved) and three on the first floor. We have a separate central decontamination room as an essential part of good practice. We are excited about our brand new refurbishment and extension gaining further more modern ground floor facilities and high technology training seminar room.
There are three Dentists working, including myself, two associates. We are also honoured to have a practice Administrator / Manager, a Receptionist and four Dental Nurses with three who are Oral Health Advisors; an integral part of good preventative practice. We have experienced and qualified staff working in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.
The practice has achieved an Investors In People award for its excellence in practice management. We are working towards a BDA Good Practice and Denplan Excel status.
The Area: Wigston is a pleasant, mainly residential suburb of Leicester, with easy access to the M1, M69, and the extremely successful Fosse Park shopping complex, and also surrounding green open countryside. It is very convenient to access on a regular bus route. There is a nearby shopping centre with a private car park.
We are a forward-looking and very much a family oriented practice; the healthy and motivated demographic ensures a good mix of paedodontics, gerodontics and general dentistry to hone your skills with all age ranges.
Other Points of Interest: In its function this practice is mixed NHS/ Denplan/ Private reflecting the current pluralistic approach to Dentistry. We can offer experience of almost all aspects of general dental practice, including management experience in clinical governance and CQC. We are also working close in conjunction with the Local Area Team as they assume their new updated and challenging role with the NHS GDS 2022-2023.
The tradition of this Practice is that following their training year, I am delighted that I still keep in touch with the ex FDs and they continue to keep me up to date with their latest professional and personal news. We are more than happy to help find accommodation if needed.
The practice enjoys a social outside from 70s and 80s dress up party to the well known Leicester curry nights at one of the prestigious restaurants. During the summer we also take turns for a barbecue evening. We also make an effort to celebrate staff birthdays as part of a social. Leicester city has good choice of bars and restaurants; cinema and gym facilities very nearby that may only take less than 10 minutes drive.
