The Educational Supervisor: I qualified in 1990 and have been an educational supervisor for several years. I am also a qualified non-practising solicitor with a special interest in law and ethics. In the recent past I have sat as a Chair for the General Dental Council Fitness to Practise Committee. I have worked at the same practice since qualifying, taking over from the retiring principal in 2008.
The Practice: The Dental Centre is a new practice, built in 2015 to replace an existing practice that had been here for over 40 years. It is a family practice. The equipment in the FD surgery was all installed brand new when the new practice was opened at the end of 2015. The dental chair is ambidextrous, so can be used by right or left handed dentists. Rotary endodontic equipment is available. The practice has dedicated staff wi-fi and high speed broadband. Each surgery is equipped for digital radiography using Villa and there is a also a separate room allocated for panoral radiography using a Carestream 8100 unit. There are dedicated clean and dirty decontamination rooms. There is private secure staff parking on site. All staff are trained and used to working closely with an FD.
The Area: Chelmsley Wood is in North Solihull, close to Birmingham Airport and the NEC. It has excellent motorway links and an HS2 station is currently being built less than a mile from the practice. It has a population of around 15,000. The practice also attracts patients from surrounding areas due to its proximity to Birmingham Business Park, Land Rover and other employment areas. Chelmsley Wood is a high needs area and the full range of NHS treatments are carried out. The practice is close to Solihull as well as Resorts World near the NEC.
