The Educational Supervisor: Arvinder Khatkar qualified from Guy's and St Thomas' Hospital in 1992.She has been the practice principal since 2003 and has been involved in Foundation Training since 2004 being an Educational Supervisor for over fifteen years. She has also gained postgraduate qualification PgCert in Dental Education in 2016. She enjoys all aspects of general dentistry and with a keen interest in cosmetic dental treatments too.
She aims to provide encouragement, support, guidance and motivation for the foundation dentist to help them gain confidence and competence through the foundation year.
Shirley Leung qualified from University of Liverpool in 2015 and joined Brandhall Dental as an FD dentist. On completion of her FD year she has continued at this practice as an associate dentist. She has been an ES at the practice since 2022. Alongside this, she has gained extensive experience through working in a range of general practices including a prototype practice. Shirley is approachable and has an open door policy with all members of the team including FDs. In 2018, she gained her MFDS qualification and is passionate about dentistry and always keen to continue developing.
As an ES, she aims to support and guide the foundation dentist to gain experience, confidence and achieve all their goals ready for their future careers.
The Practice: The practice is a modern, progressive, family focused mixed NHS and Private dental practice. It is an approved BDA Good Practice Silver member and has been an FD training practice since 2004. The patient base consists of a broad mixture of young families, elderly and working population hence providing the FD with a good range of clinical experience. The three modern, well-equipped surgeries are air-conditioned, fully computerised using the Exact software system and all have individual intra-oral digital x-ray units. There is a dedicated central decontamination room. There is also an OPG room. We offer a comprehensive range of NHS and Private treatments for all age groups of patients. The FD working hours are 9am to 5pm Monday to Thursday and study days on Fridays.
The dedicated practice team consists of the principal dentist and 2 associate dentists (both previous FDs at this practice), part time aesthetic dentist, part time hygienist, fully qualified practice manager and fully qualified dental nurses who are oral health educators and radiographers. This is a very experienced team with lots of enthusiasm, motivation and a sympathetic, caring attitude who will provide the FD a wealth of experience and knowledge.
The practice has full wheelchair access and parking is available off street or on the forecourt.
The Area: The practice is located just 15 minutes from Birmingham City Centre with easy access to the M5 motorway and close proximity to bus and train networks. It is located within a residential area in a parade of shops and in close proximity to several schools with parking available off street or on the forecourt.
Other Points of Interest: This is a very experienced training practice. FDs are encouraged to become involved in all aspects of clinical dentistry, to observe as much as possible and to get involved in as wide a range of treatment as possible to ensure they finish the year as competent and confident associates.
The nature of the practice and its patient base gives FDs a broad range of opportunities to observe and to practice all aspects of dentistry including Invisalign and aesthetic dentistry within an ethical environment focused on comprehensive patient care.
