The Educational Supervisor: I completed my undergraduate training at the University of Leeds dental school. Following my graduation in 2016 I moved back to Leicester, my hometown, for foundation training. In 2017, I joined the Whitehouse as a full-time associate.
I enjoy all aspects of general dentistry, and I particularly enjoy providing urgent care to patients who present in pain. Participating in various courses has allowed me to keep my skills up to date, which includes an aesthetic dentistry masterclass at LonDEC KCL, and an oral surgery course at Sheffield Dental School.
In 2021, I became an Educational Supervisor as part of the pilot programme for Dental Therapy Foundation Training. I have really enjoyed this role and strive to provide the best support and training I can - after all I was a foundation dentist not so long ago so I am aware of the challenges you may face as you start your professional career. I hope you will get to learn a lot and have a great experience with the fantastic team we have here at the Whitehouse.
The Practice: We are a team of enthusiastic dentists and DCPs – with additional NHS contracts in specialist orthodontics and intermediate minor oral surgery. The Whitehouse is a large eight surgery practice located in the Evington Road area of the city and serves a diverse local community. We are fully computerised with digital radiography and the practice was fully refitted in 2018. The practice holds BDA Good Practice, The Healthy Teeth, Happy Smiles Prevention award and we are participants in the national Starting Well scheme. We have recently been given a bronze award by Green Impact for eco-friendly dentistry. The practice is close to the city centre and is within a 20min walk to the city’s railway station.
The Area: Leicester has something for everyone. We have a multitude of sporting facilities - including basketball, climbing, kick boxing, trampolining, go-karting, and water sports at the Leicester Outdoor pursuits centre.
The city’s food outlets reflect the diverse population of the area with everything available from fish & chips through to sophisticated fine dining, you can find something to suit everyone’s taste. The city hosts the annual comedy festival and has a number of theatres including the Curve. Located centrally in England, Leicester is well connected by road with regional cities and has excellent rail links with frequent trains to London.
Other Points of Interest: Most of our nursing team have additional qualifications in the application of fluoride varnish, oral health education, photography or radiography. We also have an orthodontic therapist in the practice. We enjoy practice events throughout the year and we are constantly looking for challenges to stretch ourselves. In 2019 we sent a team to Cambodia with Dentaid – in one day the team saw 350 children applying fissure sealants and fluoride varnish.
