The Educational Supervisor: My name is Faiz Khan, and I find being an Educational Supervisor extremely rewarding. I am the Clinical Lead at Somercotes Family Dental Centre, and I have been at the practice for 10 years. I am committed and focused with the continuous development of both my clinical skills, and the teaching and training of Dentists/Dental Nurses – I have managed to complete both the MFDS and the MFGDP, and most recently has been awarded the Postgraduate Certificate in Endodontics, and I aspiring to convert it to a Masters. I am also in the third year of my Mclindent in Prosthodontics. I have trained a large number of Dental Nursing staff, and I enjoy my days as a speaker in our Peer Review meetings due to my easy going nature and the love that I have for teaching.
The Practice: The Somercotes Family Dental Centre is a busy NHS and Private practice, in a village setting, with an abundance of free street parking. It has been established for over 50 Years. The practice is set over two floors and has been recently furbished with ultra-modern equipment. On the ground floor there is an open plan reception and waiting area, 2 surgeries and an OPG room, and there are an additional 6 surgeries on the first floor along with a dedicated Good Practice decontamination room and waiting area. The practice has been a member of the BDA Good Practice Scheme for 10 years and has been accredited with Investors in People Gold for 6 years. These accreditations are an acknowledgment of the skill and dedication of the whole team, who are dedicated to supporting Foundation Dentists to ensure that their training year runs smoothly and successfully. The practice holds both a large NHS GDS contract and an NHS Unscheduled Dental Care contract. The practice offers a range of treatments including Minor Oral Surgery, Prosthetics, Endodontics and Cosmetic procedures. All dentists are encouraged to undertake post-graduate studies, so there is constantly an atmosphere of learning, development and progression.
The Area: The practice is located in Somercotes a small town in the district of Amber Valley in Derbyshire, surrounded by picturesque scenery. It is a well-established dental practice that sees a mixture of NHS and Private patients, and it is within commuting distance of Nottingham and Chesterfield with regular bus routes, and it is also located close to the M1 making it a good location for commuting for study days.
