Child Health East of England Research Initiative (CHEERI)

Child Health East of England Research Initiative (CHEERI) is a trainee led research network, which was formed with the aim of improving research activities and engagement amongst paediatrics trainees in the region. The network plays a crucial role in fostering collaboration, and knowledge exchange in the field of paediatrics research.

CHEERI offers a unique opportunity to engage in research, learn from experts, and contribute to innovative projects, it also provides a supportive platform for trainees to develop their research skills, build professional networks, and make meaningful contributions to child health research.

Aim:

The aim of CHEERI is to promote and facilitate engagement of paediatrics trainee in high-quality research in the East of England by fostering collaboration, knowledge sharing, and innovation. 

By bringing together experts from various disciplines, CHEERI aims to address key challenges in child health and improve outcomes for children in the East of England and beyond.

 

Activities:

  • CHEERI organizes monthly research meetings where members discuss their latest research engagements, ongoing projects, and collaborate on new research initiatives. These meetings also allows members brainstorm on opportunities of improving child health through research and provides a platform for networking, learning, and sharing best practices in child health research.
  • In addition, CHEERI provides regular updates on Quality Improvement Projects (QIPs) in child health, highlighting successful initiatives and best practices that can be implemented across the region.
  • Collaboration with other research groups 
  • Conducting systematic reviews and guideline development on key topics in child health, synthesizing the latest evidence and providing recommendations for practice and policy.

 

Achievements so far

·    Developmental epileptic encephalopathy with spike wave activation in sleep – guideline collaboration with EPEN

·    Investigations for early developmental impairment – literature review and guideline creation

·    Collaboration on the late preterm service evaluation project – a regional QIP

·    Involvement in RCPCH Navigating the Research Road - TRN event

·    CHEERI collaboration on exploring transport costs as a barrier for patient attendance – expanding research

·    UEA Health and Social Care Partnership group links

·    Involving medical students and FY doctors in research

·    Supporting establishing Oxford & North Thames research network by a CHEERI member

·    Collaboration with ARU Vision Research Institute

·    Publications by multiple CHEERI members!
