The Educational Supervisor: I qualified in 2013 from Barts and The London, QMUL. During university I was 5th year rep, graduation lead, conducted interviews for prospective candidates, and sat on both the Student Staff Liaison Committee, and the Dental Education Committee.
I was a Longitudinal Dental Foundation trainee from 2013-2015 in Leeds/Bradford. This was a 2 year scheme where I worked alternate weeks in general practice and as an OMFS SHO in a major oncology unit. Following this, I was offered the position of a Specialty Doctor in Oral Surgery - I worked this part time for a couple of years whilst spending the remainder of my time in practice. My main duties in hospital were assessment / biopsy / removal of soft tissue lesions, though I gained huge amounts of experience in complex surgical procedures as I had my own GA lists.
I have been an ES since 2019 and completed a postgraduate certificate in Dental Education in 2021. Aside from general dentistry, I have a keen interest in Facial Aesthetics, Orthodontics, and Implants.
The Practice: Thurmaston Dental Practice is a mixed NHS/Private practice with 5 modern surgeries set across two floors. We are always looking for ways to improve our patient care and we strive to offer our patients the highest level of treatment options available, utilising the latest technological advances.
In addition to general dentistry, we provide Dental Implants (including the use of 3D printed guided technology), we have 2 x CEREC machines, an iTero scanner, a CBCT machine, we are Gold accredited Invisalign providers, and we offer a range of facial aesthetic treatments.
We are a modern, fully computerised and paperless practice utilising iPads throughout the practice for all forms/paperwork to be completed electronically. We have digital X-rays and OPG, CBCT, 2 x Hygiene Therapists, a Prosthodontic Specialist, and a dentist with a Masters degree in Endodontics. In addition we offer Practice Manager and Treatment Co-ordinator support. We also have a shared DSLR, an intraoral camera, and a range of intraoral scanners that everyone including the FD is encouraged to use
The FD surgery is our newest room, which was completed in October 2018. All equipment and materials are provided with full clinical freedom.

Other Points of Interest: We have been proud sponsors of Leicester Riders (Basketball team) for the past 5 years. Their players and backroom staff often attend for their appointments, in addition to PR sessions through the year. Despite only winning the league once before in their history, since we have been sponsoring them they have won both the British Basketball League and BBL Trophy in 3 out of the last 4 years (they were runners up last year), and are on course to regain the league title this year! Must be the magic of our mouthguards! ha ha We are also quite a social team and have regular team outings and get-togethers, the latest of which was Paintballing. I woke up with a fair few bruises though, so I can't promise we'll do that again anytime soon! We also hold a games night approximately once a month, everyone invited!
