The Educational Supervisor: Having graduated from Manchester Dental School in 2003 I have been involved in NHS dentistry for 17 years and the principal dentist at City Dental Practice in Birmingham since 2013. Having always worked in high treatment need areas like Ashton Under Lyne in Lancashire, Bilston in the Black Country and now Winson Green in Birmingham I'm acutely aware of the challenges and difficulties faced by dentists working in such demographics. 
I have a keen interest in engaging and mentoring young dentists and providing an insight into the dental profession for prospective dental students. This has lead me to speaking at career conventions at colleges and 6th forms in the Birmingham area and now this is my third year as an Educational Supervisor. My team and I also like to get involved with our local community hence we regularly visit two primary schools local to our dental practice and a children's charity (www.safss.org.uk) to talk about how to look after our mouths. I'm also treasurer of the BDA Sutton Coldfield Section and a member of the Birmingham Local Dental Committee. 
Outside of dentistry my young family (Aaron aged 9 and Arya aged 6) keep me  busy and I have keen interest in all sports especially cricket and football.

The Practice: The practice was established in 1979 and after becoming the principal dentist in 2013 we extended it into a 3 surgery mixed NHS/private dental practice over 2 floors with the newest surgery, fitted in 2020, being used by the Foundation Dentist. All dentists have full access to the Reciproc rotary endodontic system and all surgeries are fully equipped with digital x-ray units with dedicated digital developers, fibre optic handpieces as well as electric handpieces and are computerised using SOE Exact software. 
Our team is experienced and well established with Pam and Marian having worked here for 30 years and 20 years respectively as dental nurses. Chanetel trained and qualified as a dental nurse with us in 2019 and is already an integral part of the practice.
Our FD can expect to work with Marian and Chanetel and the ES will always be on site to provide support whenever needed with an 'open door' policy.

The Area: Winson Green is a multicultural inner city area in the west of Birmingham close to the city centre. The practice is located on the main Dudley road in a busy residential area with lots of independent shops, restaurants and takeaways.  

Other Points of Interest: The FD can expect to see a mixture of patients made up of the list of established patients from the previous FDs, established patients of the practice in general as well as new patients.
