She has worked in an orthodontic practice in the past and currently treats patients at the practice with Invisalign and short term orthodontics. She holds a facial anesthetics qualification and offers treatment at the practice. She has always been involved with foundation training but became an official educational supervisor 4 years ago.
Away from the practice Gurvinder is kept busy with her 3 children.

The Practice: The practice was established in 1949. It has grown to 5 modern surgeries, since Dr Kully Shoker took over the practice in 2003. He has been the Training Programme Director in the West Midlands for 10 years and works at the practice 3 days a week. Many patients attend the practice from all over Coventry, and not only the local area, alongside many that travel from other cities, mainly due to the reputation of the practice.
The practice is fully computerised, using EXACT software alongside Clinipads. Digital radiography is available from each surgery alongside the availability of an OPG machine. There is a range of abundant materials present with FDs being able to use Rotary endodontic systems from the outset. There is no restriction on care provided in the practice. The practice provides a mixture of private and NHS treatments including implant restoration, facial aesthetics, Invisalign, complex rehabilitations for tooth wear and neglected mouths.
There is a team of 5 dentists, including the current FD, 3 part time hygiene/therapists, a larger team of reception staff, clinical nursing team, practice manager and Head clinical nurse. Many have been with the practice more than 10 -15 years. The same dedicated nurses have supported past FDs in the practice since 2004.
The team has extensive experience working alongside FDs and the current Associates are all past FDs of the practice.

The Area: Coventry has been voted City of Culture for 2021. There are exciting developments within the City and the centre has changed considerably over the last few years with the addition of new restaurants/bars and art spaces.
The practice is located within a mile of the City Centre. The area is a mixed residential and commercial area, with a large retail park within walking distance of the practice. This comprises of a Morrisons, Office Outlet, Currys, B&Q and a variety of furniture stores. There is also a nearby BMW/Mini showroom.
There are many Victorian style properties in the area. There is a large student population in Coventry and a number of them rent the numerous properties allocated for this purpose in surrounding streets. Holyhead Road is busy arterial road that has traffic flowing towards the City Centre and the opposite direction provides quick links to the A45 towards Birmingham.
The City has a well known football club and those rugby enthusiasts WASPS rubgy team are based at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry. There are numerous sports facilities available for gym and exercise lovers.

Other Points of Interest: The joint Educational Supervisors are experienced in FD training. The shared knowledge gained will be invaluable as each ES has their own areas of special interest. In addition the practice owner is also present to help provide guidance if necessary. The team are fun and friendly, which has been commented on by past FDs. Social events are arranged throughout the year to help with team bonding and just to let our hair down!!! Which is equally as important as working hard. We like to work hard and play hard at HDP.
The year is a busy and challenging one and the correct support is essential as this year informs the future years in your chosen career. Hopefully we can impart our enthusiasm for Dentistry on you over the 12 months you will spend with us.
