HEE Midlands and East
The Educational Supervisor: I have been an ES since 2018. I graduated in 2012 from Manchester. I followed a similar process during my FD year, so I know the demands for a newly graduated dentist coming into practice in this current climate. My area of interest is in endodontic therapy, if you would like to gain more experience in this I will coach you through this. I am also Invisalign go accredited and have interest in Minimally Invasive Cosmetic Dentistry - having completed Monik Vasant's totally composite course, I have a keen interest in Composite Veneer work. I have completed the Prof Tipton Restorative course and I have a great wealth of knowledge with occlusion, crown and bridge work and dealing with toothwear cases. I work 3 days at this practice, Monday Tuesday Wednesday. Thursdays - the principle dentist shall be looking after you. Fridays we have 2 other dentists in. I work Thursday and Fridays at a private clinic in Tamworth.
The Practice: The practice will be a great stepping stone for any newly graduated dentist. We are in an area of low socio-economic status and the majority 70% of patients will be of this. The volume of dental work you will get through will be of great benefit to an FD, in both the practical hands on work in a patients mouth and then the communication side in talking to patients about treatment options, risks and benefits and costs. The remaining 30% of patients of patients are from the rural villages and once you have built rapport and gained the trust of these patients you can have the options of showcasing and selling your private dental work.
We do have an excellent choice of materials to hand and work with fine art dental for our crown and bridge work our denture lab is on the same road as us and one does have the option of communicated with the technician face-face and even seeing how one stage in surgery translates to the next stage in lab to make the final medical device.
We are a diamond invisalign provider in the area and we do use the itero scanner. We use digital exact notes and digital radiographs with an OPG on site. The FD's surgery is one year old - everything is very new.
The Area: Non flouridated and predominately low socio economic - so high treatment need. We are in a house converted into a practice. There is off street parking. Very nice area to live in - if you do not fancy the commute as our current FD and his wife currently live in a flat 5-10mins away from the practice. If the commute is over 45mins I would consider you do the same.
Other Points of Interest: This will be a great stepping-stone practice for a dentist who is looking to continue their career in a general dental practice, as you will develop and fine tune all the skills needed for this.
