The Educational Supervisor: I have been an ES since 2017 and been involved with Dental Foundation training since 2014. I have a relaxed and supportive personality and enjoy seeing the improvements in clinical skill during the foundation year. I am a partner in the practice with my brother Alex Hannah and have owned the practice since 2012. We have worked together now for twenty five years. I qualified in Leeds in 1992 and completed one of the first VT years after qualification. I enjoyed this year and could see the benefits to completing the year having time to gain knowledge and skill with the help of a mentor. I Completed the MFGDP exams in 1998 and spent the first ten years in practice working exclusively in the NHS. I spent a lot of time attending postgraduate courses to develop my cosmetic dentistry skills and joined the BACD at its inception.
I have also worked in private practice for six years which has given me valuable insight into the expectations and delivery of complex restorative care. I am a member of the Derby County LDC and attend meetings and Peer review sessions with the other members. I find NHS dentistry enjoyable and rewarding through having a constant change in patient base at the practice. I have completed courses in Short Term Orthodontics and facial aesthetics and have been offering these services for the last four years.
Away from dentistry I am married with three older children and enjoy winding down with Photography and Gardening.

The Practice: Broadwalk Dental Practice is situated in the beautiful market town of Buxton, which in turn is situated on the edge of the Peak District. The Practice has been present in the building for over 40 years but has grown in size in the last seven years to be a five surgery practice. The Practice is 90% NHS based and has two contracts, one a standard UDA contract and the other a sessional contract for high needs patients. This allows for a constant stream of new patients of varying dental needs and as a result allows for great variation in treatment options. You will find all aspects of dentistry readily available and a chance to complete some complex restorative patients.
The Practice has two full time associate dentists and a full time dental therapist. There is also a part time hygienist who provides private hygiene appointments. Alex and I share a surgery for the week and as such have time to spend with the DFT and provide quality protected time for administration and tutorials.
The Practice is fully computerised and digital x-rays including a panoral machine. We have eight dental nurses, one dedicated receptionist and a practice manager.
We use the Wave one rotary endodontic system.
There is opportunity to observe implant placement, short term orthodontics and facial aesthetics should this be of interest.

The Area: Buxton is in the North West corner of Derbyshire. It is surrounded by beautiful countryside and is very popular with people for outdoor pursuits. The town is relatively compact and attractive with essential shops and lots of places to eat. The area would suit a dentist who likes outdoor pursuits such as mountian biking, walking or climbing. The town is home to part of Derby University and as such there are plenty of places to rent for the time you will be staying in Buxton.
There is a full year of events at the Opera House including plays, opera, pantomines and comedy. There is also a small cinema attached to the opera house. Most people go to Stockport for the new cinema releases which is 20 minutes away by train, bus or car. To explore the area having a car is essential as it is to attend the development days on fridays because these are 1 hour away by car. The winter weather can be quite snowy which we find fun and rarely inteferes with the running of the practice.

Manchester is 40 minutes by train and London can be reached in 1hour 50 minutes from nearby Macclesfield.
