The Educational Supervisor: As the ES I bring a wealth of experience gained as I progressed through my varied career. Firstly working as an assistant in Australia and then an associate in the UK for two years then owning a general practice in Sydney for over 17 years. I was a part time teacher at Westmead Dental School in Sydney for 13 years.
Moved to the UK for family reasons and worked as an associate for the University of Cambridge treating staff and students. In 2012 we had a VT in the practice and I assisted them as well. I have been a part time clinical teacher at Guys Hospital where I became full time in 2013 with responsibility for seminars ,exam questions and student welfare. I was deputy team lead. I retired from teaching and returned to Practice where I now work as  Dentist in Special Care treating all age demographics either in the surgery or where necessary under a GA.
This year I have been an assistant ES and have a good understanding of the varied  needs of a Foundation Year Dentist. We are able to provide a broad range of experiences and expertise which makes the Community Dental Service unique in the opportunities it provides. We have a consistent DAC service where we can offer patients who require routine treatment of varying complexity appointments with the FD.
I hope this provides a favourable description of the Cambridge Community Dental Service.

The Practice: Dental HealthCare Cambridgeshire CCS NHS Trust provides a wide range of work including urgent dental care, out of hours dental care, special care dentistry, domiciliary care, intravenous and inhalation sedation as well as a countywide clinical network of oral surgeons.  A foundation dentist would have access to ample patients identified following attendance at our Dental Access Centres and will be able to perform a comprehensive variety of dental care.  The team includes many dentists with areas of special interest including restorative dentistry, oral surgery and special care dentistry who will all be available to support treatment planning and delivery.  The trainee would also have unique opportunities to gain experience in areas not normally available within the general dental services such as general anaesthesia, inhalation and intravenous sedation, oral surgery and domiciliary care.

All surgeries are well equipped and comply with high standards of infection control.  Staff are friendly and well trained and we use the Software of Excellence computer software for electronic appointments, record keeping and submission of claims.
