Examinations
In addition to progressing through rotations and fulfilling portfolio requirements, all ACCS trainees are expected to pass examinations specific to their parent specialty in order to proceed to Higher Specialty Training (ST3 for Anaesthetics and AM, ST4 for EM).
Emergency Medicine
EM stream trainees are expected to pass FRCEM Primary before entering CT3/ST3 year of ACCS-EM training, and must pass FRCEM Intermediate Certificate (SAQ and SJP) by the end of CT3/ST3 in order to progress to ST4 EM training. Alternatively, trainees may also proceed if they have passed MRCEM OSCEs prior to Aug 2018.
Anaesthetics
Anaesthetics stream trainees do not require specific exams to progress to CT3 year of ACCS-Anaesthetics, but will be required to hold FRCA Primary MCQ before applying for ST3 Anaesthetics, and must have passed all components of FRCA Primary (MCQ's, SOE & OSCE) by the date of interview for ST3 Anaesthetics training posts.
Acute Medicine
AM stream trainees are expected to pass MRCP Part 1 before entering CT3 year of ACCS-AM, and pass MRCP Part 2 and PACES by the end of CT3. Acquisition of MRCP (UK) is mandatory to enter ST3 training in Acute Medicine.
