Higher Specialty Training ST4-6

There are over 50 posts available in the East of England at ST4-6 level with a diverse range of experience on offer. Trainees are allocated a sub sector of the region (see Rotations page) to minimise travel and give a degree of geographical stability. Every trainee will spend a minimum of one year in a teaching hospital (Addenbrooke's Hospital or Norfolk & Norwich Hospital) and at least 6 months in Addenbrooke's for Major Trauma Centre experience.

There is a monthly regional training day which is mapped to the HST curriculum over 3 years, including mock exams, annual presentation days and annual faculty development days. Critical appraisal and SAQ practice papers are distributed online. The region has particularly excellent performance at the Critical Appraisal and CT sections of the FCEM.

Relevant out of programme experience is regarded favourably and previous trainees have spent time abroad in retrieval medicine, simulation and prehospital emergency medicine.
