Tier 3 Educator - Multiprofessional Primary Care Supervisor - Training Pathway
PILOT

This training is suitable for GPs, Advanced Practitioners, AHPs, Nurses, FCPs, and other members of the wider workforce.

Historically the preparation of Educators (supervisors) was developed and delivered for individual professions. (eg. GP trainers). To support the rapid development of multiprofessional practice across healthcare settings, HEE EoE have created a training package to enable a consistent approach to Educator (supervisor) training.  This prepares Educators and Supervisors in supporting education and assessment of practitioners from a range of professions.

A Tier 3 Educator in Primary Care (also known as a Multiprofessional Primary Care Trainer) will acquire and develop capabilities to deliver Educational and/or Clinical Supervision to Foundation Doctors, GP Trainees at all stages of training, Advanced Practitioners, AHPs, Nurses, FCPs, and other Health Professionals working in Primary Care. Tier 3 approval also enables Multiprofessional Educators to provide Clinical Supervision in out of hours settings.

Facilitation of Educational Supervision and Clinical Supervision may be determined by professional regulatory body standards and guidance. The multiprofessional Tier 3 Educator guidance aims to provide clarity and signpost to professional standards and guidance.

The FAQs for Multi-professional Supervision and Educator training are available here and at the bottom of this webpage.

GP Trainers

If trained as an Associate Trainer (Tier 2a) in the HEE Tiered System from 2018 onwards or as a GP Trainer (Tier 3), it is not necessary to repeat training already achieved.  Depending on current approval status, the following training is to be completed:

Tier 2a Associate Trainer -> Tier 3 Multiprofessional PC Trainer:

  • Refresher Pack
  • Advanced Pack
  • All elements in Route C marked as 'TOP UP MP Trainer'

*The Online Webinar will be unchanged, so please only attend the section of the morning that has not been completed

Tier 3 GP Trainer -> Tier 3 Multiprofessional PC Trainer:

  • Elements in Route C marked as 'TOP UP MP Trainer' only

If trained as an Associate Trainer before the 2018 Tiered Educator system was introduced, all elements for the desired tier level will need completion. This is due to fundamental changes in training as well as new challenges facing trainees. Feedback from delegates have found the additional learning invaluable and the time well spent learning how to support learners efficiently and effectively.
