The Educational Supervisors: Nick and Hayden both qualified from the Royal London Hospital medical college in 1990 with honours. They both worked as house officers in prosthetics and conservation departments respectively. They have been business partners for 19 years. Nick and Hayden have been Educational Supervisors trainers for the since 2005.
Nick Barker has an MSc, with distinction, in Restorative dentistry from UCL Eastman. He is the Chair of the Local Dental Network for Essex and Clinical Advisor to the Office of the Chief Dental Officer. He is Professor in Oral Health Sciences and Module Lead on the MSc in periodontology at University of Essex and Honorary Senior Lecturer at Barts and the London School of Dentistry. He is secretary for the Essex BDA branch, the elected member of General Dental Practice Committee for Essex at BDA headquarters. Clinically he is accredited as a Level 2 Performer in both endodontics and periodontics and provides a referral service for NHS referrals in respect of each for NHS England and NHS Improvement- East of England.
Hayden has an MSc in Clinical Education. He has overseen the training of the foundation degree hygiene students since 2002, he is currently overseeing four students at the practice. He is responsible for tutorials and works closely with FDs. He has a special interest in cosmetic and aesthetic work.
The Practice: A busy NHS and Private practice in Colchester. We have 12 fully equipped surgeries which are computerised with Software of Excellence 'Exact' and offer air conditioning throughout. We also offer an in-house plaster room where simple lab work can be carried out and a dedicated decontamination room and full teaching facilities including lecture room and clinical skills laboratory. Hayden and Nick are supported by a team of six associates, two therapists, four hygienist, two radiographers and the nursing and reception staff. At present we have twelve foundation degree students training to become hygienists and 4 BSc undergraduate therapists . As a practice we enjoy socialising outside of work which is great for team building.
The Area: The practice is located on the edge of a large residential area close to two schools. The practice has a large patient data base which would provide the FD with a varied range of treatments. There is plenty to do in your spare time, with good shopping, numerous bars, restaurants and night clubs!
The practice has excellent road/rail access with London being just a 50 minute train journey.
