The Educational Supervisor: I qualified with a BDS from Manchester University in June 1999 and I'm planning to complete his MSc in Endodontics in October 2019.
I have involved in foundation training for many years, having been a ES since 2006. My life long interest in postgraduate education has involved in completing Post Graduate Certificates in Medical Education, Medical Law and Ethics, Dental Implants and Mentoring. I am a general practitioner with an interest in implants, Endodontics and mentoring dentists with training needs . I'm also involved with undergraduate teaching at the Birmingham Dental Hospital. My teaching qualification has contributed to an increasing interest in the practice as a training environment. I feel that we have developed a training orientated dental practice that encourages everyone to develop and to realise their potential and achieve their goals and aspiration.
The Practice: The Practice has been involved with FD training since 2006, having had a wide variety of FDs with various abilities, training needs and personalties, we are confident that we can provide any future FD with an environment which will provide support to aid their development and progression from a newly qualified dentist to a experienced independent dentist. We have qualified nurses who have several years of FD training experience and are capable of providing the correct support to allow FDs to develop and progress towards independent general practice.
The Area: The practice is located on a inner city main road, which is a ten minute drive from the Birmingham City Centre. Having good transport links with a bus and rail stops only a few minutes away and street parking being available close by. The practice is modern with three surgeries and two reception areas. The patient base is mix, ranging from those who require minimum intervention to those with high needs and the practice provides a full range of treatment based on the patient needs. The practice has a stable list of patients as well as taking on new patients, thus providing a full range of treatments to the FD. The patients are well aware of the practice being involved in Foundation training and are very accommodating to the new FD.
Other Points of Interest: We have been a training practice for since 2006 and understand the need of most new Foundation dentists. We have a very relaxed and open door policy and aim to Taylor the training based on the FD's needs and abilities. We pride ourselves on providing a supportive and understanding environment for FDs to flourish and we have had nothing less than remarkable feed back from all of our previous FDs.
