The Educational Supervisors:   Julia Hallam-Seagrave: I qualified in Birmingham in 2000.  I stayed as a GDP in my FD practice until 2006.  During that time I undertook postgraduate training in Orthodontics.   In 2006 I was appointed as a Senior Dental Officer.  In 2008 I was appointed clinical lead for the service.  I am a Specialist in Special Care Dentistry and passed the  Diploma in Special Care Dentistry at The Royal College of Surgeons of England in 2011. In 2014 I was awarded a Masters in Medical Education.

I completed by FD year at the Peterborough Dental Access Centre so  much I continued to work for Cambridgeshire Community Services. It was here that I developed a passion for Special Care that led me to work at Kings College Hospital Trust for three further years.  In 2018 I returned permanently to Peterborough as Senior Dental Officer.

Lydia Forbes: After qualifying in Leeds in 2005 I completed my VT year in North Yorkshire. During 2006-2007 I went on to spend a year as an SHO. I gained my MFDS RCS Eng in 2008.  From there I worked in both general practice as an associate and as a Senior Dental Officer Yorkshire for a couple of years before relocating  and taking up a temporary post as a Senior Dental Officer for Cambridgeshire Community Serivces.  After starting a family in 2011 I worked general practice before taking  permanent role in the salaried service.I have worked in Special Care Dentistry, prisons and urgent care.

The Practice:  Peterborough Dental Access Centre is a six surgery city centre clinic.  The centre provides urgent dental care to people with dental emergencies who do not have their own dentist and also special care dentistry to vulnerable groups including adults and children with learning disabilities, physical disability, sensory disability and behavioural issues. The dentists involved in special care dentistry also work from the hospitals in Peterborough providing dental care under general anaesthetic and inhalation sedation.

The team includes a clinical lead dentist,several dentists, a newly appointed therapist , a practice manager, nurse team leader and qualified dental nurses and decon assistant.  Many of the dental nurses have qualifications in Dental Radiography and we are fully digitial,one nurse is trained in fluoride varnish application and one dental nurse has an Oral Heath Education qualification.  All of the team under take mandatory training on topics such as infection control, health and safety, medical emergencies and child protection. 

The surgeries are all equipped to a very high standard, one surgery has a bariatric dental suite. We are currently refurbishing the clinic to include a sensory room for special care patients. The records are computerised and internet access is available in each surgery.  The clinic also has a digital OPG machine, infection control suite, sensory room and large staff rest facilities

The Area: Peterborough is an expanding Cathedral city with a population of approximately 165,000 people. It has excellent links to London and the north. The city has good shopping areas, a cinema, theatres and various sports facilities.   There are also excellent rail links to London (50 minutes) and the North.  The surrounding countryside allows for participation in cycling, rambling, fishing and horse-riding.
The practice itself is in a prime location in the city centre with all the amenitites within walking distance and an ideal place to live.

Points of Interest The Dental Access Centre was named British Dental Association Good Practice Scheme Practice of the Year 2009. In 2006-2007, the FD won a regional prize for her achievements and in 2017 the  FD won a postgraduate prize in restorative dentistry.
